An Uber Surprise in DC
This morning we were surprised again by the action plan of DCTC Commissioner Ron Linton. We woke up to the news that the Commissioner held a pseudo-sting operation to ticket and impound the vehicle of one of our driver-partners, without stating which statutes Uber has violated. DCist covered the story.
We still haven’t heard anything from the Commissioner on what if anything we are doing wrong. We haven’t seen a single statute stipulating how limo companies charge for services and thus do not understand Linton’s press comments on the matter.
We are surprised that a public official is making statements about Uber violating the law without sending some kind of notice stating specifics. We are still open to having dialogue, but he hasn’t responded to email. We’d like to let him know that we can be contacted at email@example.com.
We are still operating. We intend to continue operating, and we’re very confident that Uber continues to operate legally.
Drivers are Being Punished Unfairly by the DCTC
One thing that is certain is that this is not fair to the driver, Ridha, who is now without his car throughout a busy three-day weekend. In order to support this driver we’ll be covering the fines and donating $1 from every Uber ride in the District this weekend to help him and his family as his ability to make a living has been directly affected by the Commissioner’s questionable actions this morning.
