Women Driver-Partner Appreciation Roundtables

In March, we pledged to create job opportunities for 1,000,000 women as drivers on the Uber platform by 2020 and we are working every day toward that goal, in each of our 300 cities and 57 countries. This week, as Mother’s Day approaches, we are hosting women driver-partner appreciation events in 16 cities around the world to hear directly from our partners about their experience driving with Uber and to bring awareness to the flexible, equitable earning opportunity the Uber platform affords.

Women around the world are busy managing their professional, social, and family networks, so it’s no wonder that more and more are pursuing opportunities with flexible hours. Many female partners tell us the number one reason they choose to drive with Uber is flexibility. Being able to decide when and where they drive enables them to do what matters most to them —whether that’s getting a higher degree, building a small business, or raising a family. In fact, our research shows that the majority of our women partners are caretakers, with over 70% of mothers on the platform supporting two or more dependents at home.

Since announcing our commitment to create opportunities for one million women, we’ve heard from many of our women partners around the world:

“I enjoy it because I have kids. It gives me time to do everything. It’s very convenient for me so I love doing it. When I signed up, I said to myself “women do everything here; I can do anything”, so I did it.”

— Nancy F, uberX partner in Boston, MA

“Being able to work when I want is the best kind of freedom.”

— Tamika, uberX partner in Chicago,IL

“I quit my full-time job to go back to Uni to specialize and further my career. Driving with Uber enables me to continue supporting my family, by working hours that suit me.”

— Saira, uberX partner in Brisbane, Australia

We’re excited to sit down with our top women partners to celebrate how they move our communities. In honor of Mother’s Day, we caught up with a mother-daughter pair, Dana and Trudy, in Austin, Texas to hear about their experience driving with Uber.

At Uber we know technology can be a game-changer, bringing with it new opportunity. Women partnering with Uber are already referring their friends, daughters and mothers to drive with Uber. Through these roundtables, we will learn more from them as we seek new ways to enhance the platform and build an even broader network of women driver-partners.
