Giving Back this Season
The season of giving is here! To kick things off, the Uber DFW team and a few dozen driver-partners joined TangoTab to help make 14,000 sandwiches for those in need in DFW. We are proud to partner with several drivers that are giving back around the Metroplex. Each day, these people are rolling up their sleeves to make DFW a better place. Check out how some of our philanthropic partners are getting out from behind the wheel and spending their time in the community.
Meet Kelly – Driving with Uber since September, helping disadvantaged families with 6 Stones for more than 10 years
Each day that Kelly spends volunteering with 6 Stones, she is striving to transform lives, homes, and the people in our community. Whether they’re distributing food, providing clothes or even repairing homes for families in need, 6 Stones is able to lend a helping hand to those in need. On average, 6 Stones is able to feed around 300 people each and every week. Kelly believes that her time is better spent giving than receiving.
Meet Doug – Driving with Uber since August, fostering furry friends with Parker Paws for two years
By volunteering with Parker Paws, Doug is able to help homeless pets around the Metroplex find their fur-ever home. Each year, Parker Paws is able to rehome hundreds of pets in the area. Being a large animal lover himself, Doug often fosters dogs until they are adopted. To him, there is no better feeling than seeing animals get adopted. He even once adopted one of his own foster pet, his loving hound dog, Lady Bird.
Meet Molly – Driving with Uber since July, leading by example with the Junior League of Dallas for three years
When Molly moved to Dallas, she decided to join Junior League of Dallas (JLD) to meet new people and give back to her new community. Through JLD, an organization for women committed to volunteering, developing the potential of fellow women and improving the community, Molly has been able to work with several programs like the Boys and Girls Clubs of Dallas, Promise House, and Genesis Women’s Shelter. She enjoys the diversity of people she’s able to meet while volunteering and finds it a fun and impactful way to spend her time.
Looking to lend a helping hand this holiday season? Here are some great places to give back to the community we all call home.
The Stew Pot is a local refuge for Dallas’ homeless and at-risk individuals. As a volunteer, you can dish out holiday cheer three times a day at The Stew Pot’s Second Chance Cafe. Currently, volunteers help to serve 1,000 meals a day, seven days a week. With so many meals and individuals to feed this holiday, there’s no such thing as too many cooks in this kitchen.
The U.S. Marine Corps Reserve deliver hope to less fortunate youngsters through their highly praised Toys for Tots Program. Every year communities and organizations help to collect and distribute new and unwrapped toys during the holiday season. Get in on the action by donating online, bringing unwrapped toys to a local Toy Drop Site, or scheduling a time to volunteer at locations all around the Metroplex.
Meals on Wheels is a VNA program that support its mission to help elderly neighbors and loved ones maintain their independence by providing the services that allow them to age where they are happiest and most comfortable – at home. By helping deliver meals in your
own vehicle for one day, VNA can save enough money to feed a new senior for an entire week. Start serving up kindness by volunteering to drive and deliver meals once a week, once a month, or through an employer’s Day of Caring Program.
