Driving Economic Empowerment

In partnership with Change Happens! and NAACP Houston, today we launched a major initiative aimed at creating 5,000 jobs in the next 12 months. This initiative will focus on Houstonians who are looking for a flexible way to supplement their income and who are interested in using the Uber platform to help achieve their financial goals. It will also support the efforts of Change Happens! to empower people to help themselves and NAACP Houston’s mission to help the un-served and underserved communities of color within the city.

“As an organization that fights to eliminate challenges and barriers to economic independence, we understand first-hand how economic opportunity can change lives and communities. Uber is helping to knock those barriers down and improving transportation access. In particular, Uber has played a major role in increasing mobility in the Third Ward area and throughout the city. We are excited about the meaningful economic opportunities that will be created from this partnership as it fits right into Change Happens! mission of empowering families to help themselves.”
– Rev. Leslie Smith, CEO & Founder of Change Happens!

Lateefah Eburuche is an Uber driver-partner who lives in the Third Ward and uses Uber as a way to earn additional income when she isn’t running her vintage clothing business. Lateefah echoed what we’ve heard from many of our driver-partners — she enjoys driving with Uber because it offers the flexibility to be her own boss and choose the hours that are most convenient for her.
