Your Wheelchair-Accessible Vehicle Has Arrived
Uber’s mission is to connect everyone to safe, reliable rides that arrive within minutes at the tap of a button. Today, we’re excited to move closer to that mission in Philadelphia with the addition of an important new product. vehicles
Wheelchair-accessible vehicles (WAV) are now available in the Uber app in Philly
WAV connects riders with licensed paratransit drivers and curb-to-curb service in vehicles that are equipped with ramps or lifts. Philly riders requiring a WAV now have access to the same on-demand transportation technology that millions of Uber riders already love in over 200 cities and 45 countries worldwide.
HOW IT WORKS
- OPEN your Uber app
- SLIDE your button under ‘WAV’ at the bottom of the screen
- SET your location and request
- ENJOY your ride
Historically, transportation options throughout Philadelphia have been severely limited for people with disabilities. There are 1,600 taxi medallions that support a city of 1.5 million people. Of these, only a small number are wheelchair-accessible.
There are paratransit vans, but reserving one often requires days of advanced notice. Planning a trip to school, the mall, or a doctor’s appointment can be a major challenge. Even with 45 more wheelchair-accessible medallion taxis being added later this year, overall transportation options in Philly will still grossly under-serve the community of people who need a WAV.
Uber is excited to make a dramatic difference in many Philadelphians’ lives by providing a wheelchair-accessible option for safe, reliable, and on-demand travel.
* WAVs are specifically meant for riders in wheelchairs and their companions.
** Fares are calculated based on time and mileage. Learn about our in-app fare estimator HERE.

— Chuck Horton, Executive Director of the Mayor’s Commission on People with Disabilities

A little over a year ago, we set out to put a new spin on an old classic–make reliable food delivery available at the tap of a button. Back then, we started by offering food in the UberEATS app from 1,000 pioneering restaurant partners in four cities. And today, more than 40,000 restaurants globally–from poke shops to pasta spots–are sharing food with customers through UberEATS. With a growing restaurant community comes more choices and more complexity. So we’re cooking up features to continue to make UberEATS easy and reliable. Here is a taste–
