UberPITCH: Philly’s Best Ideas On Demand
On Friday, April 17, we teamed up with prominent early-stage investors in Philly to make once-in-a-lifetime opportunities available on-demand with UberPITCH. We received nearly 40,000 requests in just four hours, and over 30 lucky entrepreneurs got to pitch their ideas for 15 minutes to investors from First Round Capital and other local venture firms—all on demand, for free, and in an Uber.
We unearthed several high-potential startups, from a lingerie line specifically for breast cancer survivors to a hand soap company with a humanitarian focus. Our riders’ ideas dazzled some of Philly’s most accomplished investors.
Nothing ventured, nothing gained. #UberPITCH on!
Here are several examples of the 30+ pitches that our investors heard:
Ana Ono Intimates | Pitched to Sam Landman of Comcast Ventures
Ana Ono lingerie is made especially for women that have undergone reconstructive surgery due to breast cancer treatment. Designed and manufactured in Philadelphia, their wire-free lingerie offers beauty and allure, while keeping comfort and fit in mind. Their product line is available on AnaOno.com, and 10% of all sales support foundations that are supporting women during their journey.
Hand in Hand Soap | Pitched to Philip Moyer of Safeguard Scientifics
Founded in 2011 by a husband and wife team, Bill and Courtney, Hand in Hand started with one bar of soap and a simple mission: to stop the spread of water related illnesses in children across the world. Today, the line has expanded to include bath salts, candles, pump soap, lotion, sugar scrub and lip balm, including the bar soaps, which come in six signature scents. For every product purchased, Hand in Hand donates a bar of soap and a month of clean water to a child in Haiti. To date, Hand in Hand has donated over 150,000 bars of soap, and has provided 3 water-wells, which provide clean water to over 700 families each and every day.
GoJobio | Pitched to Scott Tarte of Gabriel Investments
GoJobio revolutionizes the way that job seekers and employers approach the hiring process using innovative video technology (60-second video introductions/pitches). The site combines the social edge and interactivity of social media sites with the urgency and intentionality of a job search engine to allow more transparency and engagement between the employer and potential employee.
