Ridesharing: A Slam Dunk for the “Big Friendly”

The “Big Friendly” is about to get a whole lot friendlier, as uberX — Uber’s low-cost ridesharing option — officially launches today in OKC! uberX delivers reliable and quality service at prices cheaper than a taxi!

In a city where transportation alternatives are few and far between, Uber provides a convenient, communal, cost-effective way to get around town. Now, you can push a button and within minutes, your fellow Oklahoman will arrive as your private driver to take you to dinner in Bricktown, to Chesapeake Arena to cheer on the Thunder, or to get you home safely from a late Tuesday night at Iguana Mexican Grill.

Here’s how it works:

1. Request a ride with the tap of your Uber app (iPhone / Android / BlackBerry).

2. No need to wait outside: you can easily watch your driver approach on the map and you will get a SMS notification when your car is arriving curbside.

3. No cash on-hand? No worries! All payments are processed directly through your account and a receipt is instantly emailed to you.

Our service area details can be found on our Uber Oklahoma City page.

Start sharing the Uber love NOW! With our GIVE 10 GET 10 promotion, just share your personalized promo code with friends and they get $10 off their first ride and…after they take their first ride, a $10 credit will be added to your account!

Here’s to a day of the official tip-off of uberX OKC, the official tip-off of another #ThunderUp season, and the tip-off of Uber joining Oklahoma City’s growing sharing economy.

What is Ridesharing?

We’re partnering with drivers like you and me who will be driving their own cars, offering ridesharing services through the Uber platform.

The benefits of ridesharing are numerous. Ridesharing makes more efficient use of the existing cars in a city – which ultimately means fewer cars on the road, helping ease the traffic and environmental strains of owning your own vehicle. Oklahomans who have a few extra hours on their hands, whether they be students, stay at home parents, or part-time workers, can use their own vehicle to earn extra money to help pay the bills. Most importantly, it offers city residents another great way to get around.

All drivers pass Uber’s rigorous screening process (but are not licensed as professional chauffeurs), which includes:

  • Stringent background check

  • Driving history check

  • In-person interview and screening

  • A city knowledge exam

  • On-going quality controls

Bottom line: our riders’ security and satisfaction is our highest priority. All Uber rides are additionally backed by Uber’s corporate insurance policy, and riders have the option to rate their driver after every trip and continually improve the system with their feedback.
