Driving Economic Opportunity in Urban Communities
From Northern California to North Carolina, riders and driver-partners are leveraging Uber’s technology to stay connected to their community and the people within it. While Uber expands its footprint across the East Coast, we remain committed to driving economic opportunity and development for the cities in which we operate.
That’s why we’re excited to announce North Carolina’s launch of UberUP, Uber’s Urban Partnership, an initiative to connect communities with entrepreneurial opportunities furnished by the Uber platform.
To drive this commitment forward, we’re partnering with ICIC, the Initiative for a Competitive Inner City, a nonprofit research and strategy organization and the leading authority on U.S. inner city economies and businesses. Together, we will reach thousands of urban residents through local events, skill-building courses and information sessions in an effort to ensure that the opportunity of entrepreneurship is available to all.
“We are thrilled to partner with UberUP because we share its objectives of enabling under-resourced individuals create wealth and establish a livelihood through entrepreneurship.”
Matt Camp, President, ICIC

“Uber has been the best thing that has happened to me and my family in a long time. I had tried and tried and tried to find a second job that would be flexible for me and still allow me to make good money. I am a wife, a mom, I work full time and I have my own non-profit organization.
Having the ability to be my own boss hence working when I want to and taking off when I want to was the perfect opportunity.”
Mattie, Uber Driver-Partner
“I’m a father and a husband, my educational benefits are great for getting my degree, but don’t leave much time to earn money to support my family. Uber to the rescue, work when I can, work when I want.”
Brandon, Uber Driver-Partner and Marine veteran
