On October 15, the town of Evesham, NJ is introducing a pioneering partnership with Uber to provide safe rides for all of its residents to help prevent drunk driving.
Evesham Mayor Randy Brown spearheaded an agreement that will fully pay for all rides taken from select bars and restaurants to homes within the township between 9pm – 2am.
The town of Evesham aims to ensure a safe ride is within reach when residents need it most
In 2013, DWIs in Evesham increased by 14.8% compared to 2012. Since then, Evesham has been taking a concerted, data-driven approach to reducing alcohol-related traffic incidents. Uber’s technology complements this commitment by providing access to a safe, reliable transportation option.
Recent reports have proven Uber’s ability to help reduce drunk driving incidents. The reports include a study completed in partnership with Mother’s Against Drunk Driving (MADD) which concluded that people make choices that result in fewer alcohol-related crashes when given more transportation options like Uber. In addition, an independent study from Temple University found that cities where Uber operates have 3.6-5.6% fewer drunk driving deaths than cities without access to ridesharing.
With this partnership, Uber and the town of Evesham will empower local residents with a transportation option to help prevent drunk driving
Evesham Township will fully pay for rides taken from select bars and restaurants within the towns of Evesham and Voorhees directly to residents’ homes in either town
The Safe Ride option within the app will be automatically enabled when riders request from one of the designated program locations*
The Safe Ride option within the app will be available between the hours of 9pm – 2am
