Uber and Public Transit: Working Hand in Hand in New Jersey
September was a busy month. From the cities, to the suburbs, and along the Jersey Shore, nearly 400,000 riders requested an Uber last month looking for a safe, reliable ride.
As kids went back to school and folks kicked their post-Labor Day work schedule into gear, the number of Uber trips in New Jersey increased 4X compared to last year, with riders taking 1.3 million trips in September.
Nearly 1 in 4 of those trips began or ended within ⅛ of a mile of a transit station, indicating that New Jersey residents are using Uber as an effective way to improve their commute to school or work.
For many residents, public transportation is an integral part of their morning and evening commutes. However, in so many areas across the state, it’s that first and last mile of the daily commute (to and from the PATH, bus, or rail station) that remains a challenge.

Uber addresses that challenge by filling gaps and completing the first and last mile of your commute, making it easier and more convenient to use existing public transportation.
Since launching in late 2013, we’ve worked to expand service across the State so that riders can reliably request a ride to and from the PATH station and other existing public transportation networks.
The number of trips beginning or ending near New Jersey’s PATH stations has grown tremendously since 2013. In September alone, more than 65,000 trips occurred near a PATH station.
