Meet Sonia, uberX Partner and Sixth Star Award-Winner
Every day across the nation, Uber partner drivers work hard to seamlessly and efficiently move people around their cities. While all of our partners help riders get from point A to point B, some still go above and beyond in the service they provide. Each week, together with American Express, we award one of these partners through our Sixth Star Award program.
Today, we are excited to honor our New Jersey partner, Sonia, with a Sixth Star Award. To thank her for his superlative service in New Jersey, Sonia will receive an Uber gift package including a $1000 American Express gift card.

Sonia was born in Anaheim, California, and moved to New York with her family when she was 4 years old. She has not returned to California since, and her family now lives in Dubai. Today, she lives on Staten Island with her 6-year-old daughter.
Sonia first heard about Uber when she started researching car service job opportunities online. After learning that Uber would give her the flexibility she needed as as single mother, she decided to give it a try. She has now been driving on the platform since December 2014, and remains one of our top rated partner drivers in New Jersey. Her typical week includes driving Monday through Friday, from 9am-5pm. She then also works around the clock on Sundays, leaving her Saturday and weekday evenings to spend time with her daughter.
Between being a mom and driving full-time, Sonia has her hands full. But hard work and long hours do not cause her to overlook the importance of compassion and patience—even on the toughest days. In selecting a Sixth Star Award winner, we look for “above-and-beyond” feedback from riders and a track record of excellence on the Uber system. The below story from a rider’s account of his experience with Sonia exemplifies not only who Sonia is a partner driver, but also as a person:
“I wanted to take a moment to let you know about the exceptional service received today. I needed to get a ride for an elderly, blind neighbor who needed immediate transportation to the medical center to meet her brother who was being taken there. As I was unavailable to take her myself, I used my Uber app. The driver, Sonia, answered her phone immediately when I called to explain the situation. She was able to help this elderly, hysterical woman down the steps and into her vehicle and delivered her to the medical center promptly. Sonia went above and beyond the role of a normal pick up.” – Mike, New Jersey
