Celebrating The Women Who Move New Jersey
In honor of International Women’s Day, we hosted an event to recognize and celebrate the growing impact of our female driver-partners.
In attendance were both top-rated driver-partners, as well as Maria L. Nieves, President and CEO of the Hudson County Chamber of Commerce.
“I was inspired by the women I met—women who are taking control of their financial futures. As Uber drivers, they’ve also entered an industry traditionally dominated by men. More power to them and all women who start their own businesses and become their own bosses.”
– Maria L. Nieves, President and CEO of Hudson County Chamber of Commerce
According to a recent survey, at the end of last year 19 percent of drivers using the Uber app in the U.S. were women, compared to 14 percent a year ago. And last month, 21 percent of our active uberX driver-partners in the U.S. were women. But that doesn’t tell the whole story. Women are signing up to drive with Uber in greater numbers: 29 percent of new signups in the U.S. are female. In the past year alone, over 230,000 American women have driven their first trip.
Here in New Jesrsey, many driver-partners are driving with Uber for the opportunity to fit work around life, rather than the other way around. Suzanne, a top-rated uberX partner, spoke at the event about how Uber has enabled her to pursue her acting career.
“It gives you a sense of autonomy and a sense of control over your own destiny, and you meet some pretty awesome people along the way.”
– Suzanne, uberX driver-partner
We’ve seen that amazing things can happen when women take the wheel. We look forward to continue celebrating this amazing community in the years to come.

A little over a year ago, we set out to put a new spin on an old classic–make reliable food delivery available at the tap of a button. Back then, we started by offering food in the UberEATS app from 1,000 pioneering restaurant partners in four cities. And today, more than 40,000 restaurants globally–from poke shops to pasta spots–are sharing food with customers through UberEATS. With a growing restaurant community comes more choices and more complexity. So we’re cooking up features to continue to make UberEATS easy and reliable. Here is a taste–
