Behind the Wheel with Suzanne, uberX driver-partner

For as long as she can remember, Suzanne wanted to act—whether it be on the stage or in film and television. Her trademark enthusiasm and attention to detail have served her well. Not only have they helped make her extremely popular among riders, both traits have been essential to navigating the ups and downs of life as as a working actor.

Even if you haven’t yet had the pleasure of taking a spin in Suzanne’s ‘14 Buick Encore (affectionately called Little Miss Cocoa), there’s a chance you’ve already seen the top-rated uberX driver-partner on several of today’s hit television shows.

Suzanne’s career aspirations and monthly bills weren’t always aligned. Juggling 5 jobs and struggling to pay the bills, Suzanne learned she could buy a car through Uber’s Vehicle Solutions program—enabling her to drive part-time while pursuing her passion for acting.

Nearly a year later, Suzanne still drives anywhere from 20 to 30 hours a week, splitting her time across Hudson, Union, and Essex counties when she’s around New York City for auditions, and Camden and Gloucester counties while at home in the suburbs of Philadelphia.

“It’s just been such a wonderful thing to have,” Suzanne says. “It’s been huge for my acting career.”

Suzanne describes driving with Uber as the “Holy Grail of actor side jobs,” since it offers her the flexibility to both earn an income and attend auditions. That flexibility allowed her to attend an audition for a key supporting role in an upcoming network miniseries. She landed the role and will be appear alongside a star-studded cast in early February. Her dream is to be cast as a series regular role in a dramady.

“Even when I make it, I want to drive once a week to see if riders recognize me,” Suzanne says.

The road to steady acting work on hit TV shows wasn’t alway easy. The single mom juggled several jobs in catering, daycare, and other industries while raising her son in Philadelphia.

When she’s not driving with Uber or memorizing lines, you can find Suzanne indulging in her love of baking, or watching her favorite football team at home with her family. She loves the Eagles so much she’ll often drive wearing team swag.

“That makes for fun conversation with New Jersey riders,” Suzanne says with a laugh.
