Behind the Wheel With…Sam, uberX Partner Driver
Not long ago, you would have found Sam hustling on the trading floor in Manhattan’s Financial District. These days, though, Sam is cruising the streets as one of our top New Jersey uberX partner drivers.
The Staten Island resident first learned about Uber from a friend, and fellow trader, who was driving with Uber on the weekends. After hearing rave reviews, Sam decided to give it a try as well.
Sam started out driving with Uber only on weekends, until he realized this could actually be a great full-time gig for himself. It didn’t take long until he left the trading life behind and started his own entrepreneurial business as an Uber partner driver.
Sam’s Tricks of the Trade
When it comes to being a successful uberX partner driver, Sam has got his own strategy down pat. He sets a goal for himself to complete 20 trips a day. Some days are busier than others, and trips can vary in distance, but as long as he completes those 20 trips on days that he works, his weekly earnings always match his goal. His secret, he told us, is that he wakes up bright and early (as early as 3:30am!) to get the early airport trips when there isn’t any traffic. He also sticks to driving on more residential streets or service roads so that he can make himself more available for requests.
Fun Facts about Sam:
- Sam went on an 18-day vacation to Europe this summer, during which he attended the Tomorrowland music festival in Belgium, and visited Amsterdam, Ibiza, Barcelona, and Madrid
- He has a German Shepard named Mac
- On his days off (which are rare—he’s one of those people who admittedly “hates taking days off”) he enjoys hanging with Mac at the park
- Sam is planning on making moves from Staten Island to Jersey City
- When he works weekends, you can typically find him having a lunch break at 1 Republik, his go-to spot in Hoboken, or enjoying the view along the waterfront
