Your Trips Raised $100K for the Red Cross

Uber | American Red Cross

This record-setting winter weather has had a major impact on transportation in Greater Boston, as well as living conditions for many up and down the East Coast. Despite these circumstances, our driver partners are braving tough road conditions to help keep Boston moving.

When Massachusetts declared state of emergency during Winter Storms Juno and Linus, we capped surge and donated all of Uber’s proceeds on surged trips to the Red Cross, per Uber’s national policy. As a result of trips you took during this storm, Uber Boston has donated over $100,000 to Red Cross Disaster Relief.

“On a daily basis our disaster teams respond to home fires, open shelters during storms and deploy assets to make certain that communities are supported when an emergency arises or a disaster hits. It is because of the generosity of our sponsors, including Uber, that we are able to provide critical services during times of need and crisis.”
– Ralph Boyd, CEO of the American Red Cross of Massachusetts.

Your Fares are Positively Impacting the Community

Dynamic pricing helped encourage more drivers to get on the road and, over the last month, bring in average gross fares of $40 an hour to support themselves and their families. Reliable rides in these conditions would not be possible without this economic incentive for our driver partners.

Meals provided by the Red Cross
Throughout six states, the Red Cross has been able to serve meals and snacks in these relief efforts.

We want to be transparent with riders about what to expect as we continue to face ongoing transit service delays and extreme weather. While these conditions continue dynamic pricing will be more frequent than normal. We are working around the clock to increase the number of available driver-partners to help meet the higher demand.

Thanks for your support and your patience. Winter’s not over yet, but whatever else comes we will get through it together!
