Tips for a Safe Halloween

Each and every day, Uber works tirelessly to connect you to safe, reliable rides, using technology that enables us to focus on safety before, during, and after a trip. And this Halloween, it’s no different.

While some will hop on a broomstick, we expect that millions of riders across the world will opt to use Uber for a safe ride to and from Halloween celebrations. To help ensure one of our busiest nights of the year is the seamless experience you’ve come to expect, trick or treat yourself to the following tips:

  • No need to cut the Monster Mash short to find a ride: You can request an Uber from anywhere and wait safely inside. You don’t need to stand on the street to hail a ride or walk around strange neighborhoods to find the nearest bus stop. Uber rides are cashless and must be facilitated through the app.
  • While you may be in costume, your ride won’t be in disguise: Once your ride arrives, make sure you’re getting in the right car with the the right person. Cross check the license plate and car make/model with the description in your app. Verify that your driver matches the photo and ask your driver to confirm his or her name displayed in the app.
  • Should you need to contact your driver, we mask your phone number: If you can’t find your driver or want to share more pick up information, call or text your driver through the app using an anonymized phone number so you don’t have to share any personal information.
  • Despite it being a spooky night, loved ones don’t have to worry: You can easily share ride details, including the specific route and estimated time of arrival, with friends or family so they can see your current location and arrival time.
  • Keep the hocus pocus outside the ride: Please be considerate to your driver and follow our Code of Conduct to ensure that everyone in the vehicle shares our standards for respect, accountability and common courtesy.
  • You don’t have to share your candy, but please share feedback on your ride: Our safety team reviews this information and takes it very seriously and will investigate any issues. If something happens while in the car, whether it’s a traffic accident or an altercation, our customer support staff are ready to respond 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
  • Leave your fairy wings or cape behind? No problem: Pull up your emailed receipt, visit riders.uber.com/lost, or view your trip right in the app to retrieve a phone number to contact your driver and arrange the return of your item.

If you’ve got questions, or would like to share concerns, feel free to reach out to your Boston team at supportboston@uber.com or on Twitter at @Uber_BOS. Stay safe and have a smashing Halloween!

P.S.: Remember, the carriage doesn’t actually turn into a pumpkin at midnight, so if surge pricing is in effect, you always have the choice to wait until fares return to normal before requesting a ride. But if you go ahead and request with surge pricing in place, it will be communicated repeatedly to you – and will require confirmation – before you can request a ride. Plus you can use the in-app fare estimator to avoid being spooked by the cost – with or without surge pricing in place.
