The Weekender: Getting Weird
We’ve agglomerated some of our favorite quirky, off-beat, and downright nerdy events happening this weekend. Boston is getting weird, in the best possible ways.
Gun ‘Nuts | Janky Donuts Shooting Contest
There’s a new donut shop in town, but it’s not what you’re expecting. Janky Donuts is the brain-baby of artist collective, !ND!V!DUALS, serving batches of their finest inedible breakfast rings. Yep, these faux-nuts are just wood and paint. The facade is located in the Lot F Gallery, and this weekend they’re hosting an unhole-y union of guns and donuts. A shooting contest with a hefty prize package goes to the winner!
Costumes, Comics, and …Country? | Comic Con Boston
What’s the over/under on time-traveling fedora and bowtie cosplay count reaching 100 this year? Keep tally all weekend at the Boston Convention Center, and stay for some pretty amazing events and exhibits. To some, country music is like kryptonite, but apparently there are enough country songs about the indestructible superhero to warrant an entire panel on the subject this Saturday. There’s also quite a lineup of celebrity appearances from blockbuster and cult-favorite flicks. And of course, you’ll have the opportunity to (re)unite with bronies.
Saddle Up! | Hoedown at the Hall
Speaking of country music, head down to Faneuil Hall this Sunday for a country-themed street festival. Don your 10-gallon hat and learn to line dance with the best of ‘em, or just chow down on some country cooking at the local food vendors. There’s also a cornholing tournament, live music, and a whip show by Jack the Whipper. Most importantly, we’re excited for the petting zoo.
Very Midsummer Madness | Shakespeare in the Park
It’s your last chance to see Twelfth Night performed on the Boston Common this weekend! You don’t have to be a theater geek to enjoy this show. It’s a comedy of love, mistaken genders, and shipwrecks (literal and romantic). Enjoy the park from the seats, or tote a blanket and make a picnic of it, or What You Will.
Team Uber Boston
