UberACCESS: Expanding Transportation Options
Since 2011, Uber has been evolving the way people move throughout Chicago and over 200 other cities around the world. Until now, transportation options have been limited for those who may require additional assistance.
Today, Uber Chicago is announcing a new platform that will allow those needing an extra hand or even access to wheelchair accessible vehicles to request safe and reliable rides at the tap of a button.
We’ve partnered with Open Doors Organization, a non-profit organization that works to create a society in which persons of disability have the same consumer opportunities as everyone else. Today, we are launching two products. With UberASSIST, we’ve trained uberX partners on the necessary knowledge and safety requirements for those with accessibility needs. With UberACCESS, we are growing our wheelchair accessible vehicle supply, transforming disabled transit and allowing on demand pickups within minutes instead of days.
HOW IT WORKS:
1. Enter promo code UberACCESSChi
2. Tap the UberACCESS icon
3. Select one of two options:
|UberACCESS||Drivers of these vehicles are knowledgeable of accessibility needs and are accommodating for riders who require wheelchair accessible vehicles with a ramp for transportation.|
|UberASSIST||UberASSIST is designed for additional assistance for members of the senior and disability communities. Drivers are specifically trained to assist riders into the vehicles and can accommodate folding wheelchairs, walkers, and scooters. Note: ASSIST vehicles do not have accessible ramps.|
4. Set your location and request your ride!
- Need a helping hand or a vehicle that can accommodate a folding wheelchair, walker or scooter? Request UberASSIST
- Need a vehicle with wheelchair accessibility and a ramp? Request UberACCESS
- After requesting, contact your driver ahead of time with any specific needs.
