Celebrating Two Years of uberX

It’s hard to believe it’s been two years since uberX arrived in the Windy City. Since that first trip, we have been providing access to an affordable way to move around Chicago, and a new way for local residents to earn money on their own flexible schedule.

Moving Chicago and providing flexible income-earning opportunities.

Since uberX launched in Chicago in 2013, more than 20,000 driver-partners have kept Chicago moving. They’ve covered a lot of ground in two years, and earned a meaningful income along the way.

Uber facilitates more than two million uberX trips per month in Chicago and that’s just a fraction of the total trips since our launch.

Improving access to transportation in neighborhoods that need it most.

UberX’s growth in Chicago has helped transform the way residents move around neighborhoods throughout the Windy City. Currently more than half (54%) of uberX trips begin or end in an area deemed by the City of Chicago as underserved by taxi. That’s because Uber driver-partners live in the neighborhoods where folks need a ride — more than 20% of partners live on the west and south sides of Chicago, where the average ETA for an uberX ride has dropped to below five minutes.

And during the past two years, we’ve experienced some other highlights, too. We brought you concerts on-demand with #UberLIVE, helped donate clothing to Goodwill, partnered with the YWCA to provide economic opportunities for women driver-partners, delivered flu shots on-demand with UberHEALTH and raised money for Equality Illinois for Pride 2015 (to name a few).

It’s been an exciting ride these first two years, and we’re looking forward to many more to come. Thanks for coming along for the ride.
