The above photo by Cameron Brooks takes our breath away. It shows a glowing Honolulu in all her glory and alive with aloha. Honolulu is the largest city and the capital of Hawai‘i. There’s some of the best and most visited beaches in the world right in town. With its rich history, melting pot of culture and the true aloha spirit, it was only a matter of time before Uber came to the gem of the Pacific.
- Honolulu means “Sheltered Bay” in the Hawaiian language.
- Nearly 2,500 miles from any major land mass, it is the most remote place in the world that supports a major population.
- Honolulu’s home island of O‘ahu is part of the largest mountain range in the world – most of which is under water.
- Approximately 4.5 million people visit O‘ahu each year. Of these 2.6 million are from the US and the next largest number are from Japan.
Howzit!! Welcome to the Aloha State. Uber arrived in Honolulu back in the fall of 2013. Since then you’ve come to love the Uber Black rides that get you around in style and have raved about how much you love uberTAXI! Big things are on the horizon for Uber in Honolulu, so keep your eye out!
Honolulu Top 5:
Waikiki: If it’s your first time to Honolulu, odds are you’re staying in Waikiki. There’s more than enough in this 2 mile stretch of hotels, shops, restaurants and beaches to keep you busy for a whole week. Any ocean activity you could want can all be found right in the waters where surfing was first invented!
Diamond Head Crater: A short Uber ride from Waikiki to the center of this volcanic crater takes you to the bottom of a short hike up the inside. Once you reach the summit, your view of Honolulu and the South shore of O‘ahu is one that can’t be beat!
USS Arizona Memorial: Visiting Pearl Harbor to pay your respects to the tragedy in 1941 is certainly a main attraction. The date of infamy that launched an epic conflict with Japan took place here in the early morning hours of December 7th, 1941. The peaceful waters of Pearl Harbor were forever changed by the tides of war. The USS Arizona and 1,177 of her crew were among the first casualties of the Pacific War.
Kaka‘ako: This up and coming neighborhood is growing like crazy. The walls of once drab industrial buildings are now smattered with some of the best urban mural art in the world. Be sure to check out Pow Wow Hawaii to see what we’re talking about! Kaka‘ako is also where Hawai‘i’s first and largest coworking space is located: The BoxJelly. The Uber team is proud to have The BoxJelly as its home office.
‘Iolani Palace: Honolulu is the only US city that’s home to a royal palace. The 10 room historic home sits right in the middle of downtown. It details the reigns of King Kalākaua and his sister Queen Lili‘uokalani, Hawai‘i’s final monarchs. Stopping by here is your only chance to set foot on a royal residence in the US!
Much aloha from your Uber Honolulu team!
