Uber ATL Teams Up with City of Atlanta to “Take a Stand”

This week, the City of Atlanta announced a dynamic initiative to put a stop to the growing number of assault cases in the city.

The initiative, “Take a Stand,” offers resources to both women and men on ways to guard their personal safety or get help quickly in the event of an emergency. As a safe and reliable option to anyone – anywhere and anytime – Uber eagerly signed on as official partner of the initiative.

Together, the City of Atlanta & Uber are:

1. Launching a social media and press campaign to promote awareness. This includes participation from celebrity advocates such as Gabrielle Union & Tikka Sumpter to spread the word.
2. Running several Public Service Announcements highlighting the initiative.
3. Offering the entire city $20 off their first Uber ride, with promo code CITYOFATLANTA, to support the campaign.
4. Collaborating with local colleges and universities to educate students on the initiative and providing a safe rider option.

placekitten_400Uber ATL General Manager, Keith Radford, speaks to a crowded City Hall with the backing of Mayor Kasim Reed and Chief of Police George Turner to announce Uber’s commitment to empowering Atlanta’s citizens to have their own reliable way to get out of any unsafe situation.

“Take a Stand” also features a 15-minute film about sexual assault and prevention featuring celebrity advocates. Mayor Reed and the City of Atlanta hope that college campuses, churches and community organizations across the country use the video and PSAs to educate students and members in order to have a real impact in reducing sexual assault.

We thought that because of the extraordinary platform that Uber has, not just in Atlanta, but across America, we really could help the women in the city of Atlanta.

-Mayor Kasim Reed, City of Atlanta
