Safety over Politics: FREE rides in Jacksonville with Uber!
UPDATE: Uber will continue to provide FREE RIDES throughout the Jacksonville metropolitan area until further notice!! Stay updated on #JaxLovesUber at @Uber_JAX
Ten days ago, the Jacksonville City Council responded to calls from local residents by adopting forward-thinking ordinance changes that will make Jax Uber’s first city in Florida.
As in the 51 other cities where we operate across the globe, Uber is fully committed to complying with regulations and operating in a respectful legal manner. That’s why until Mayor Alvin Brown signs the bill into law, we will not be able to operate in Jacksonville in the way our riders know and depend on. It turns out that, unlike arranging rides through Uber, apparently lawmaking does not happen at the touch of a button (who knew?). Nevertheless, Uber remains dedicated to providing safe and hassle-free alternatives for Jacksonville this weekend.
In the meantime, we will be warming up Jax’s first Ubers by giving away FREE rides to everyone. Our driver partners have been pre-booked, and will be available to all riders throughout the entire weekend compliments of Uber. Just open your Uber app, request your ride as usual and your credit card will not be charged.
The entire Uber team could not be more excited about kicking off in Jacksonville in time for the Florida-Georgia game. In fact, there is nothing that we value more than providing everyone in Jax a safe transportation option this weekend.
One case-in-point: Florida All-American and Jaguars star Fred Taylor has already been spotted in an Uber, as he’s currently in town supporting his son Kelvin in tomorrow’s big game. We’re excited to be part of helping Fred and the entire Jax community get a safe ride home after doing the Gator Chomp all night long.
It’s going to be a huge weekend, and we’re anticipating equally huge demand, so if you’re not able to catch an Uber immediately, please keep trying. More and more sedans will be hitting the streets across the weekend to get you around town in comfort and style. And remember, it’s on us!
So whether you’re planning to go tailgating at the World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party or are heading back from the bars on the beaches — have fun, be safe, and rely on Uber for your ride.
We’ve been amazed by the overwhelming support we’ve received from the community, and look forward to a new era for transportation in the River City.
Stay tuned for updates on Facebook and on Twitter at @Uber_JAX, and send in your feedback or questions to firstname.lastname@example.org. We’re looking forward to reading your #JaxLovesUber tweets all weekend long. And please encourage @MayorAlvinBrown / m
Whether you’re a freshman or a senior headed back to campus this fall, one thing is certain—you’ll need to eat. And there is nothing worse than being limited to questionable cafeteria food or taking a chance on expired leftovers in the back of the fridge. The best news? UberEATS is expanding to 30+ major college campuses by the end of the year, from Penn State to LSU to Boise State. Since we want you to focus on what you love about college and not worry about your next meal, we’re predicting the 5 times you’ll need to order UberEATS this semester.
We are excited to surpass the 100th city mark by welcoming two Brazilian cities, Rio de Janeiro and Belo Horizonte, to the UberEATS family. From Atlanta to Warsaw, people have truly embraced this easy and reliable way to discover the food they love at the push of a button. Whether that’s an Indian inspired samosa, a good old-fashioned American burger or Vietnamese pho, people in 27 countries are using UberEATS to get a taste of the world’s flavors at the push of a button.
We’re excited to expand the Uber for Business platform beyond business travel, to include a world-class customer transportation solution, Uber Central. With Uber Central, organizations of all shapes and sizes can now easily provide on-demand, door-to-door transportation for their customers, clients, and guests.
