How to be a 5-star rider

We’ve officially entered the era where your Uber rating is a status symbol, where riders are increasingly trying to attain that lofty 5-star status. Not there yet? Not to fret. Every ride gives you a new opportunity to boost your rating.

In case you missed it, riders and drivers rate each other on a scale of 1 to 5 stars after each trip. Hint: You can find out your rating to see where you stand as a rider.

If you want to know what makes a 5-star Uber rider, keep reading. We asked, and your local drivers have spoken. See the results of our poll below, take notes, and you’ll be on your way to 5 stars.

3 Ways to a 5-Star Uber rating—according to drivers

1. The golden rule

We all know it. Treat others as you wish to be treated. It applies to your Uber rides as well. You may not always be having the best day, but keep in mind that the driver is doing their best to get you to your destination, and they deserve the same respect and courtesy that you expect from them.

Pro tip: Say hello, and introduce yourself when you get in the car. This helps your driver make sure he or she has the right rider so you can get on your way.

2. Location, location, location

If your pickup becomes a game of cat and mouse, your driver is more likely to rate you lower. Do your best to double check that the pin has dropped at your pickup location and request from there.

Pro tip: If you’re running a couple of minutes late, text or call your driver to let them know. Common courtesy goes a long way.

3. Ready or not, here comes your Uber

Don’t be tardy to the Uber party. Our survey showed that Uber driver-partners appreciate when riders are ready and on time for their pickup. Be mindful of the driver’s time—they are just like us and have their own obligations to attend to.

Pro tip: If you’re requesting for a group, gather up your crew before requesting. And if you’re not the requestor, don’t be the reason your friend gets a low rating.

4. Respect your ride

Treat your driver’s vehicle like it’s your own. You wouldn’t leave trash in the backseat, right? And you wouldn’t slam the door upon getting out, right? Right? Driver-partners use their own vehicles, so please do your best to ensure that the vehicle is in the same condition when you get out as it was when you got in.

Mystery solved. Getting to a 5-star rating is now easier than ever.
