Destination Guide: Food, Fashion, and History in Coconut Grove, Miami

Coconut Grove, Miami’s oldest neighborhood, is a tropical oasis that feels farther from the hustle and bustle of city life than its zip code would indicate. Founded in 1873, this popular enclave boasts a trendy vibe that appeals to both tourists and locals alike, thanks to its charming shops, outdoor cafes, and sailboats docked by the bay.

To enjoy all that The Grove has to offer, grab some friends and an UberXL and start with these destinations:

CocoWalk

You’ll want to set aside a full afternoon (at least) for this one. Located in the heart of Coconut Grove, this elaborate outdoor mall is a must-stop for shopping, dining, and entertainment. Think high-end stores, boutiques, restaurants, cafes, and even a 14-screen luxury movie theater.

Fashion, Arts, and Music Night

On the first Saturday of each month from October through April, the worlds of fashion, art, and music collide at F.A.M. Night. During this event, local businesses host artists, live music, and special promotions, all in the heart of The Grove.

Eclectic Dining

Looking to see and be seen? Despite its decades in the Grove, Greenstreet Café remains one of the neighborhood’s premier hot spot restaurants—and with good reason. Enjoy a meal, or just a couple cocktails, in the outdoor lounge, or head over late night for raw bar and small bites.

Community Yoga and Pilates

There is no better way to experience a yoga class than in the stress-busting green space by the Biscayne Bay in Peacock Park. On Tuesday and Thursday evening from 6 to 7pm, free classes are lead by a certified yoga instructor. Don’t worry: All experience levels are welcome. Each session delivers an energetic practice with a focus on breath, meditation, and relaxation. Can’t make it to yoga? Then check out the free Pilates classes offered on Wednesday evenings at the same time to improve your posture, balance, and flexibility.

The Barnacle Historic State Park

Set on the shores of Biscayne Bay, The Barnacle was once home to one of Coconut Grove’s most influential early settlers, Ralph Middleton Munroe. Visitors to this historic home can travel back to a time when Miami was only reachable by boat. Take a tour, picnic with friends,or just take a walk and enjoy the beautiful scenery.

Vizcaya Museums and Gardens

Just outside of Coconut Grove, Vizcaya Museum and Gardens is worth the ride—perfect for anyone who enjoys a glimpse of history, breathtaking architecture, or manicured gardens. Guides offer a number of tours through this 34-room mansion and European-style gardens set right on beautiful Biscayne Bay.
