The New Way to Request a Ride in DC

We’re excited to introduce a new in-app experience that will help you request an affordable ride in the DC area.

You will no longer see uberPOOL listed at the bottom of your app. To request POOL, select uberX and enter your destination to see the full trip fare for uberX and uberPOOL compared side by side.

No surprises or complicated math—your fare will be listed up front, so you can decide what’s best for you and your budget.

How to request

  • Select the uberX option at the bottom of your app
  • Set both your pickup and destination address
  • Compare uberPOOL and uberX prices side by side
  • Choose to “uberPOOL – Share your ride” or “uberX – Get your own ride”—the option you choose will be highlighted in blue

Why do I have to update my destination?

In order to calculate an accurate fare estimate before you ride, you’ll need to enter your final destination into the app.

If I put my address in the app in advance, can my driver choose not to pick me up?

Your driver doesn’t see your destination in the Uber Partner app until you are in the car and he or she starts the trip.

What if I just want to request uberX?

If you’d like to request uberX, tap the ‘uberX – Get Your Own Car’ option on the right side of your screen. The option you choose will be highlighted in blue.

Is the fare shown in app guaranteed?

Upfront fares are calculated using the expected time and distance of the trip and local traffic, as well as how many riders and nearby drivers are using Uber at that moment. That way, there’s never any surprises when you request your ride. However, your fare may change if you update your destination or make extra stops.
