Why not request an uberX, uberXL or UberSUV if you want to bring the whole family along—and enjoy some of the most popular attractions in and around DC this autumn?
Everybody Loves a Parade
What’s Thanksgiving without a parade? The nation’s capital doesn’t host its own, but you’ll find the Montgomery County Thanksgiving Parade, held on Saturday November 19 in Silver Spring, MD, which is just a short Uber ride away. With 50-foot balloons, a marching band, fire trucks, antique cars, trained dogs, and a visit from Santa Claus himself, it’s sure to stir your holiday spirit. (Parade start: Ellsworth Drive and Veterans Place / Route: South on Georgia Avenue / End: Silver Spring Avenue)
Holiday Festivities at Reston Town Center
Reston, Virginia, hosts its holiday celebration on Black Friday, complete with a Macy’s-style parade with floats and balloons, photos with Santa, horse-drawn carriage rides, and a holiday tree lighting. If you have active kids, show up early around 8am for the Gingerbread Man Mile, a free fun run that benefits the Neediest Kids charity. It’s a great way to avoid the hordes of Black Friday shoppers crowding the big box stores. (11900 Market Street, Reston Town Center)
United States Botanic Garden Season’s Greenings
The United States Botanic Garden opens its annual Season’s Greenings on Thanksgiving Day. Enter the Conservatory on Maryland Avenue SW at the Model Train Entrance to enjoy the wonder of this exhibit first, or skip the trains by entering through the Conservatory and going straight to the Pollination Station, which is the main exhibit. Enjoy family fun and photo ops all season long—for free. (100 Maryland Avenue, SW)
Chill Out at Gaylord National Resort
Gaylord National Resort brings back its famous ICE! Exhibit with a new theme this year: Christmas Around the World. The attraction opens November 19 and runs through New Year’s Day, offering immersive activities that include a decorated town square and a winter wonderland created with 5,000 blocks of ice weighing a total of two million pounds. The fully interactive exhibit, huge at 15,000 square feet, was handcrafted by 40 international artisans and is kept at nine degrees to maintain its shape. Guests are loaned oversized winter coats, but encouraged to bring their own hat and gloves. (201 Waterfront Street, Oxon Hill)
Presidential Turkey Pardon
Watch President Barack Obama deliver the final turkey pardon of his term. Yes, it’s a thing! In 1989, President George H.W. Bush granted an official turkey pardon, sending his Thanksgiving gift from the National Turkey Federation off to a farm, and presidents since then have followed the tradition. You can watch the action from just outside the White House fence and while you’re there, take time to enjoy the surrounding fall foliage in the White House Rose Garden. (1600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW)

A little over a year ago, we set out to put a new spin on an old classic–make reliable food delivery available at the tap of a button. Back then, we started by offering food in the UberEATS app from 1,000 pioneering restaurant partners in four cities. And today, more than 40,000 restaurants globally–from poke shops to pasta spots–are sharing food with customers through UberEATS. With a growing restaurant community comes more choices and more complexity. So we’re cooking up features to continue to make UberEATS easy and reliable. Here is a taste–
