Don’t Let Safety Take a Back Seat This Memorial Day

With travelers hitting the road this Memorial Day, Uber is excited to partner with iHeartRadio and the Maryland Highway Safety Office (MHSO) as part of the national Memorial Day Click It or Ticket campaign to raise awareness of the importance of seat belt use for back-seat passengers.

Recent data shows that while 87 percent of drivers and front-seat passengers wore their seat belts in 2014, back-seat passenger use was only 73 percent for those age eight and older. That same year, more than 800 back-seat passengers were killed in car crashes. Tragically, nearly half of those could have survived if only they had worn their seat belts.

That’s why we are working to do our part to raise awareness across the DMV area with Uber driver-partners and riders. We’re encouraging driver-partners to display their “Buckle Up” window clings, reminding both partners and riders to wear a seat belt – every trip, every time. Riders can also expect to see in-app messaging reminding them to buckle up.

“We’re thrilled to be partnering with Uber and the Click It Or Ticket campaign to remind folks to ride safely this Memorial Day Weekend.  There are many injuries and deaths that could be prevented with a simple click of a seat belt. Let’s get the word out to prevent these tragedies. Remember to buckle up every seat, every time.”

We wish everyone an enjoyable and safe Memorial Day weekend. And don’t forget to buckle up, especially in the back.
