UberX & LAX: A Work In Progress
Since March 2012, UberBLACK and UberSUV have provided a safe, reliable, and stylish way for Angelenos, business travelers and tourists alike to request a trip to and from LAX. About a year later, that trip became more affordable with airport pick-ups and drop-offs with our lower-cost, eco-friendly uberX request option.
During this time, our riders in and around LA have told us they love tapping the Uber app and being on their way to the airport within in minutes. They also love landing at LAX, pushing a button, and having a car curbside by the time they clear baggage claim.
Unfortunately, authorities have taken an aggressive stance against uberX and have begun issuing citations to some drivers who pick up passengers at the airport. Although we look forward to working with the authorities to resolve these issues quickly, this unwarranted action by authorities to punish drivers and riders cannot continue. That’s why only uberX drivers who have a valid TCP license, commercial insurance, and LAX Airport Permit can complete pickups at LAX.
Please note that not all uberX drivers carry a TCP license or commercial insurance (which is a special type of commercial insurance that is optional for ride-sharing drivers), so supply might be limited. We’re working to get as many TCP uberX drivers around the airport as possible so you can request the same low-cost Uber option you’ve come to love.
You’ll also still be able to get picked up by drivers using UberBLACK or UberSUV when your flight lands. After you request a ride, just call the driver and provide details about the terminal and door number where you’re waiting.
Drop-offs at LAX are unchanged. Drivers using UberBLACK, UberSUV and uberX can drop you off at the airport as they always have.
We’re committed to making uberX a completely reliable option for airport requests and we’ll keep you updated on any changes. Fly safely and Uber on!
