UberENTREPRENEUR OC: Celebrating Small Business Owners Driving With Uber

We’re excited to announce UberENTREPRENEUR – an initiative celebrating and connecting entrepreneurs and small business owners who drive with Uber. From bakers to dance-studio owners, Orange County residents turn to Uber as a flexible way to earn an additional income as they start and grow their small business.

Meet driver entrepreneurs on the road.

As part of this initiative, we’ve created unique features to let you know if your driver is an UberENTREPRENEUR. Keep an eye out for a light bulb icon next to your driver’s name once you’ve requested through the app. An UberENTREPRENEUR badge will also be displayed in your driver’s car. We encourage you to ask them about what they do when they’re not behind the wheel.

To bring this initiative to life, we’ve partnered with our friends at Squarespace to put on UberENTREPRENEUR events and help provide tools and support to the entrepreneurs who are their own boss both on and off the Uber platform. Squarespace makes it easy for you to jumpstart a passion project or small business.

Interested in signing up for UberENTREPRENEUR? Tell us about your business and we will reach out to selected driver-partners with more details!

Tiana Ka’anohiokala Price, ‘Aina Creations

Babies 5.2015

Tell me about your business – what it’s all about?
Being that I’m Hawai’ian it is important to me that I stay connected to my ancestral roots and perpetuate my culture for generations to come. I want to inspire others to “Live Aloha” which is my company moto. To “Live Aloha” is to live being kind, to live sharing happiness, and to live with love. I officially started ‘Aina Creations July 2010. I am also a mother of an autistic son. Having my own schedule to fit around my family life is very important to me.

How does Uber contribute to being a small business owner?
The monthly expenses that come with being a small business owner can be stressful and distracting. Uber has relieved me of this stress so I can focus on the creative side of running my hula dance studio.

Tiana’s Business Tip:
My suggestion is to always put forward a positive attitude and to always make eye contact. Let your customers know that they are acknowledged and appreciated.

Uber Exclusive Promotion:

Onasis Thavorn, Funnel Cakes by Fun-O-Cakes

Tell me about your business – what it’s all about?
We’re a dessert truck, specializing in serving hot fresh funnel cakes. Celebrating life events by providing one funnel cake at a time is what we’re all about. I used to take my daughter to all the amusement parks in Orange County and we both decided it would be a great idea to not only serve funnel cake at the park, but to also serve at fundraisers for schools, local business grand openings, baby showers, and birthdays.

What is your favorite thing about being an entrepreneur?
My favorite thing about being an entrepreneur is setting up my own goals, learning from my past mistakes, and creating my own schedule. I have a million ideas and goals I want to accomplish. Being an entrepreneur gives me the opportunity to do what I want, when I want, and all the efforts I make will end up with a result that’s going to benefit me in the long run.

Why did you start driving with Uber?
During my off season when business is slow, I needed money to support my daughter, pay for groceries, and support my foodie exploration conquest. Uber gives me the opportunity to make money when times are rough in paying bills that stack up and rent is due.

Exclusive Uber Promotion:
Book an event with us, and you can have up 50 free deep fried Oreos as part of your package.

Michele Seifert, The Cookie Lady Shop

Cookie Lady blog

Tell me about your business – what it’s all about?
The Cookie Lady Shop started as a hobby. I have always baked goodies for family and friends and they always said they were so good I should consider selling them. Prior to the economic downturn in 2008 I worked for family members doing data entry for real estate appraisals and in the office for my mother’s metal bending shop. As those industries began to slow I had to start looking for other ways to make money that would allow for some flexibility with the jobs I already had. So I started looking into how I could set up a business that would allow me to sell my cookies and other baked items online, to local customers and businesses.

What is your favorite thing about being an entrepreneur?
My favorite thing about being an entrepreneur is the opportunity to be in charge of my own destiny. The success of my business hinges on me and the amount of time and hard work I am willing to put into it. When you see something you have poured your energy, time, and love into start to produce rewards it is a feeling like no other. I do not want to have things just handed to me. This country was built on small business entrepreneurs trying to make a better life for their families, and once successful, to help be able to provide opportunities for others to do the same.

Michele’s Business Tip:
Know that there will be long hours and setbacks on your way to success. How you deal with those setbacks will define what type of business owner you will be. See those obstacles as only bumps on the road to where you eventually want to be. A problem comes up that you do not have an answer for, find one. Being a business owner is about finding that last little bit of strength of character you did not know you had and pushing forward. When someone tells you no, find another way around.
