UberENTREPRENEUR LA : Celebrating Small Business Owners Driving With Uber

We’re excited to announce UberENTREPRENEUR – an initiative celebrating and connecting entrepreneurs and small business owners who drive with Uber. From shoe line creators to cooking instructors, drivers turn to Uber as a flexible way to earn an additional income as they start and grow their small business.

Meet driver entrepreneurs on the road.

As part of this initiative, we’ve created unique features to let you know if your driver is an UberENTREPRENEUR. Keep an eye out for a light bulb icon next to your driver’s name once you’ve requested through the app. An UberENTREPRENEUR badge will also be displayed in your driver’s car. We encourage you to ask them about what they do when they’re not behind the wheel.

To bring this initiative to life, we’ve partnered with our friends at Squarespace to put on UberENTREPRENEUR events and help provide tools and support to the entrepreneurs who are their own boss both on and off the Uber platform. Squarespace makes it easy for you to jumpstart a passion project or small business.

Interested in signing up for UberENTREPRENEUR? Tell us about your business and we will reach out to selected driver-partners with more details! Not a driver? Sign up to drive here.

We sat down with a few creative entrepreneurs who drive with Uber and are running businesses right here in the Los Angeles community. Take advantage of exclusive offers provided by featured entrepreneurs. Mention UberENTREPRENEUR or use codes provided below at check-out.

Simone, Chess Guru

Tell me about your business – what it’s all about?
My passion is chess and teaching it to children and adults. I learned to play chess at age 15 and fell in love with it immediately. After a few months of working with a coach, I began competing and was ranked on the in the top 50 US women by the end of high school. I’ve competed all over the United States, and continue to work towards my goal of becoming a master, attaining a title, and traveling abroad to compete. Teaching chess to children is a gift they will have for their lifetime. It exercises their mind and improves cognitive skills such as memory, creativity, strategy, logic, and visualization.

How does Squarespace support your passion?
Squarespace allowed me to build a place where people can learn more about me, my passion for chess and teaching, and contact me if they are interested.

Kimberly, Unleashed L.A.

Tell me about your business – what it’s all about?
I was always the kid on the block who took care of neighbors’ pets when they were out of town. When I realized this could be my career, Unleashed L.A. was born. Unleashed L.A. is your best friend’s best friend. We provide trustworthy, loving, and reliable dog walking and pet sitting for your pets in the comfort of their own home. We are a Certified Professional Pet Sitter through Pet Sitters International; less than 1% of all pet sitters reach this certification.

How does Uber fit in with being a small business owner?
Uber is a great fit for entrepreneurs and small business owners. As an Uber driver-partner, you ARE an entrepreneur! You don’t have someone telling you when to arrive at work, when to go home, what to do while you’re at work. It’s all up to you, and like anything in life the amount of effort and dedication you put into it equals the reward you get in return. Uber allows drivers to have the flexibility to also run their own business and accommodate all that comes with that, while still having time to spend with friends and family. I think being an Uber driver-partner is also a great way for future small business owner to hone their connection skills.

Why did you start driving with Uber?
My 70-year-old mom started driving with Uber in Dallas and she loved it! She couldn’t stop talking about it and convinced me and my 70-year-old father to sign up as well. I love it, especially since it helps me fund my obsession of running half marathons and traveling.

Kimberly’s Business Tip:
Make a connection with your clients. Without a connection, they will just move on the the next service provider, or a cheaper provider. As an entrepreneur, you have the unique opportunity to give more. If you give them a little piece of yourself, they feel connected to you, and will continue to look to you when they need help.

Uber Exclusive Promotion:
Unleashed L.A. would love to offer Uber riders 15% off their first invoice.

Kris, KFB Cosmetics

Tell me about your business – what it’s all about?
I found that I was truly passionate about making women look and feel beautiful by showing them what I envisioned for them through hairstyling as well as makeup. After managing salons I felt ready to go out on my own – to have the freedom to pursue my passion outside of the salon environment. I found a lab and began testing products in my makeup kit. Once I found ones I loved I decided to bite the bullet and make it happen.

How does Uber contribute to being a small business owner?
Uber is great because as a small business owner it is important to have flexibility in my schedule. Since I can drive with Uber whenever I want it’s a perfect fit. That way if a fashion shoot comes up, or a makeup party, or I just get slammed with orders I have the ability to focus on that and get back on the Uber platform when I have the time.

Kris’ Business Tip:
I have found that more than any product or service you can provide, the best way to earn business is to be the best genuine version of yourself. People deal with people and there are many options available for the same product or service, but there is only one YOU! So shine baby, shine…

Exclusive Uber Promotion:
Go to www.kfbcosmetics.com and enter promo code uber (all lower case) at checkout to receive 20% off your entire order.
