Uber and Tamale Lady Heat Up the Mission Bar Scene
Virginia Ramos knows a thing or two about a well-timed arrival. She’s spent the past 20 years dropping in on local bars and surprising patrons with delicious tamales, lovingly baked from her grandma’s recipe — but we think her tamales are too tasty to be kept under wraps.
This Friday, Uber and the elusive Tamale Lady are joining forces to satisfy all of your Mexican food cravings. Free on-demand tamales? Now that’s hot.
Here’s how it works:
- Open your app in select parts of the Mission and the Lower Haight and toggle over to Tamale Lady
- Promotion will be available on Friday, September 13, from 8 p.m. until we run out of delicious tamales
- There’s only one Virginia, so if you see a grayed-out icon and can’t get tamales right away, please keep trying
- All food (and hugs from Tamale Lady) will be 100% *FREE*
Now that your tamale fantasies are coming true, please help Virginia fulfill her own dream of opening a brick-and-mortar store in the Mission. Donate to her indiegogo page to ensure that there’s mas masa in all of our futures — and tweet the campaign link with the hashtag #TamaleLady to spread the word.
San Francisco, your tamales are arriving now.
We’re excited to launch Payment Rewards — a way to discover, track, and redeem rewards right in the Uber app. We’re kicking it off with Capital One®, where every 10th ride is free (up to $15) when you pay with a Quicksilver® or QuicksilverOne® card through March 2017.

As the founder and editor-in-chief of The Huffington Post, she’s built one of the most successful, innovative media companies in the world… from scratch. […]
