Riders Show Their PRIDE with Messages of Hope

This year, millions of people hit their city’s streets to celebrate PRIDE, and with the recent Supreme Court decision, there has never been a brighter moment for LGBT Americans.

Throughout June and July, Uber riders across 5 West Coast cities took the opportunity to #RideWithPride and helped us give back to the It Gets Better Project. Riders and driver-partners in Los Angeles, San Francisco, San Diego, Seattle, and Portland opened their Uber apps and joined the movement.

In Los Angeles, Portland, and San Diego, users took a ride to give back, by selecting the PRIDE vehicle option which donated $1 for every trip taken. In Seattle, San Francisco, and San Diego, users rode to inspire others, by choosing to go on camera and record a message of hope to LGBT youth. We are moved by the personal stories and messages of love riders shared mid-Uber journey, and we can’t wait to show you the inspirational video you helped create.

The results are in. The total UberIMPACT made by riders within the Uber West Coast community:

Tens of thousands of trips taken on the PRIDE vehicle option

Total donation of $35,000 going back to the It Gets Better Project

Over 300 stories and messages of hope from riders

“Uber’s determination to share our message of hope, and give others the chance to share their stories aligns perfectly with our mission and what we try to accomplish every day. The impact this initiative had for LGBT young people will be felt for years to come.”

– Brett, Director of Communications, It Gets Better Project

The It Gets Better Project’s mission is to communicate to lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender youth around the world that it gets better, and to create and inspire changes needed to make it better for them. Uber is committed to diversity and inclusion and we’re thrilled to have partnered with an organization dedicated to spreading a message of hope.

Love is love. And in support of the It Gets Better Project, we are proud to #RideWithPride.
