Meet Your Driver: Taylor

Since Uber’s launch in Orange County just under a year ago, we’ve partnered with hundreds of drivers that each have their own unique stories. Since you probably won’t have the opportunity to meet every single one, we want to introduce you to some of the men & women who’re always there to give you a ride when you need it.

For our first feature, we spoke to Taylor, who you might find cruising down PCH in her hybrid Lexus CT200. Read on to learn more about this fun-loving driver!

Where are you from originally? I’m originally from San Jose in Silicon Valley. I moved to LA in 2005, and I got brought down to Orange County because I took a new job running a tech hub in Irvine.

Why did you decide to partner with Uber? My mom was the reason I decided to partner with Uber. I was working as a personal assistant, and before that, I was a freelance professional organizer and personal shopper. I originally thought my career was empowering and flexible, but it ended up not being as convenient as I thought. My mom was partnering with Uber as a driver, and I thought, what better way to make supplemental income! Uber gave me the opportunity to make my own schedule and be in control of what my week looks like.

What’s your favorite thing about partnering with Uber? I like that I help people relieve stress caused by driving, and that riders can enjoy the conversation with their friends without having to multi-task. They can just enjoy the ride and appreciate their surroundings outside the window, all without breaking the bank. I also like that I’m helping to cut down on drinking and driving – we’re providing something to people that they’ve never had before!

How do you make the experience fun or different for your riders? I have a box in my car where I keep magazines so that people can read if we’re stuck in traffic. I also have hand sanitizer, a lint roller, candy, mint, and gum to enhance my riders’s experience.

Tell us about your most memorable Uber ride as a driver partner. It was the day before Mother’s Day and I picked up a mom and her daughter from the beach. It was really sweet because they’d just spent the day together. The mother had a special relationship with her daughter that reminded me of my relationship with my mom. She was a single mother who was telling me that she takes Uber so that she can sit right there with her daughter and enjoy the time with her. She had thanked me for making their day special – it made me feel grateful for what I was doing.

Where are we most likely to find you on your down time? I try to be as active as I can – I love hiking and being outside. I’m planning on taking up paddleboarding in Newport Harbor – I just tried it for the first time and I’m hooked! I also love yoga, grabbing lunch with my friends, and a good wine bar.

Does your car have a name? Her name is Jillian Michaels because she’s sporty and sexy!

Any other words of wisdom you want to share? With technology, we spend so much time with our heads down staring at screens, that there’s something to be said about a pleasant interaction with a rider. It’s interesting to learn about who they are and get a glimpse at their journey as an individual. At the end of the night, I always feel like I met such cool and interesting people – in some ways, Uber is bringing people back together!
