Uber Phoenix adds rider assistance and wheelchair accessible vehicles with uberACCESS

Uber has evolved the way people move throughout Phoenix and more than 300 other cities around the world. Until recently, transportation options have been limited for the more than 200,000 Phoenicians with disabilities who may require a ramp or a lift for additional assistance. Uber Phoenix is introducing a new platform that allows those needing an extra hand, or even access to wheelchair accessible vehicles, to request safe and reliable rides with uberACCESS; a separate vehicle view that lets riders with specific needs request two different vehicle types at the tap of a button.

uberASSIST allows those who need an extra hand to get assistance from specifically trained individuals when entering or exiting the vehicle.

uberWAV stands for Wheelchair Accessible Vehicles equipped with either a ramp or lift to accommodate the needs of individuals with specialized wheelchairs.

Cory Hahn, a former Sun Devils baseball star, marked the official launch of uberACCESS today as our Rider Zero.

“Before Uber started the WAV option I was limited to ride options in comparison to the general public. I really feel this will not only impact my life in a positive way but for many others, as well, who are in the same situation.
My first experience using Uber WAV could not have gone any better. Not only was it a safe and secure ride home but an enjoyable interaction with the driver. It made for a safe and friendly environment and I am excited to see this option from Uber grow to help many others around the area.” ~ Cory Hahn, Scout, Arizona Diamondbacks

“Increasing services for people with disabilities is a good thing.

I appreciate Uber taking positive steps towards accommodation, and I look forward to seeing their concept in action in Phoenix,” said Phoenix Mayor Greg Stanton.
