Love in the Air: A Valentine’s Day Story
This past weekend, love was in the air. On Friday, we surprised three lucky winners and their plus-ones with the ultimate Valentine’s Day getaway— a flyaway trip to New York City.
After cruising in their private jets, chartered by Victor, the pairs checked in to Gansevoort Meatpacking NYC, where their hotel rooms were outfitted with gorgeous flowers from 1-800-Flowers.com. Over the weekend, they enjoyed relaxing treatments at exhale spa, $2,500 shopping sprees at Saks Fifth Avenue, dinner at The Chester on Saturday night, and on Valentine’s Day, a five-course menu and private tour at Mario Batali’s Del Posto.
These duos—a too-cute couple from Memphis, a mother and daughter from Rhode Island, and two best buds from Baltimore — represented not only all of the East Coast, but also all different kinds of love. Here are their Valentine’s Day stories — ones they’ll never forget.
Jayna + Reggie from Memphis
Jayna, what makes Reggie special?
Jayna: Besides his good looks—and those dimples—I can tell him anything. We can talk through everything, even disagreements, and he’s always there. I think it’s because he sees the bigger picture, and sees some of the best things in me that I don’t always see in myself.
Reggie, what do you love most about Jayna?
Reggie: I think she makes me better because of how much she cares. She has a great spirit and has a huge heart; she genuinely cares about the people around her. And I think she’s gorgeous.
What was the best part of this weekend for you?
Jayna: Flying in perfect skies Saturday morning, anticipating this surreal experience with the man I love.
Patti + Brittany from Rhode Island
Brittany, why was it important to share this experience with your mom?
Brittany: She’s my best friend, and we’ve been through a lot together. So since I don’t know where I’ll end up in the next year after graduation, this was a nice way to spend a special weekend together, before things start changing.
Patti, what do you love most about your daughter?
Patti: She’s so sweet and so smart. She’s loyal and just the greatest friend. We have so much fun together, and can go from 0 to 100 in a great debate and then laugh just it off.
What was the best part of the trip?
Brittany: My favorite part was seeing my mom’s reaction to the 100 red roses in our room. She loves flowers and has never seen that many all for her. I was excited to see her so happy.
Greg + Taylor from Baltimore
Taylor, what did you think when Greg called to invite you on the trip?
Taylor: I was in disbelief! I said, ‘Are you sure? You don’t want to try to find a valentine?’ But I was stoked. I didn’t have anything going on this weekend, so I knew it would be a really cool experience.
Greg: I had such a short amount of time to pick someone to go, and Taylor’s been a good buddy of mine for years. Neither of us have girlfriends or Valentine’s Day plans, so I was excited to invite him.
Greg, what are you going to have to do to top this Valentine’s Day next year?
Greg: I don’t know. I better not tell my future girlfriend about this whole weekend. Otherwise her expectations of my luck and my creativity would be way too high. I have to keep this a secret.
