Stories from uberPOOL riders around the world
When you request a ride with Uber, chances are high that you’re just looking for an affordable way to get from point A to point B. You’re not looking to reconnect with a childhood friend. Or meet your future boss. Or learn about what it’s like to grow up someplace on the other side of the world. You’re not necessarily looking for serendipitous encounters—but guess what? Life is full of surprises.
uberPOOL is our carpool option that lets you share your ride with others heading the same way. It’s cheap. It’s convenient. And you never know who you’ll meet. Over the years, we’ve heard from uberPOOL riders from around the world about their surprising, funny, and moving stories. Today, we’re introducing #POOLstories, a new series where we highlight some of these stories.
For this first round of #POOLstories we’re featuring tales that took a surprising turn. From exes to authors, see who these poolers met along their way:
“I met an author who wrote one of my favorite books!” – Elizabeth, Boston, MA
“Met my representative’s Chief of Staff in my uberPOOL!” – Paul, Washington DC
“On my way to a holiday party last year, I was in an uberPOOL and started making small talk with the driver. I asked him where he was from and he said he was from Mali in Africa. I was learning French at the time from an instructor who was also from Mali. After sharing that with the driver, he asked me the the name of the instructor. I told him, and he casually said he had a friend with the same name who he hadn’t spoken to in 20 years. He asked me more questions, and we started to realize that my teacher and his friend might be the same person. In disbelief, I pulled out the class photo we had taken the week before. And low and behold, it was the same man! I immediately called my teacher to let him know who I had run into. I then gave the phone to the driver. They reconnected right before my very eyes. I’ve never believed in fate more than I did at that very moment.” – Stefany, Washington DC
“Met a psychic in my uberPOOL and he gave me a free palm reading! I’m gonna have a brilliant future apparently. It made my night.” – Grainne, London
