Uber Visiting the Queen City: Free rides!
Hello Queen City! As Charlotte prepares for #DNC2012, we thought it time to test the waters and launch an ‘Uber Pop-up Shop’ for the week.
This week marks the 2012 Democratic National Convention Committee Media Walkthrough, so Uber will have vehicles in Charlotte from June 4th-June 8th. Pickup times will be shortest downtown and near the airport, but coverage will extend throughout Charlotte.
If we can woo you the way we think we can, we’ll be back in September for #DNC2012 doing whatever we can to smoothly chauffer the masses and help Charlotte show it’s a force to be reckoned with.
We’ve left out the best part: Your first Uber ride in Charlotte this week will be free! Simply request as normal and your first trip will be automatically billed as $0 (up to $40). For more info on Charlotte: http://www.uber.com/Charlotte.
Theo LeCompte, the COO of the DNCC, was our Rider Zero this morning. He had a seamless pickup at the airport, hopefully the start of great things as we move about Charlotte!

Today, I’m excited to announce that Arianna Huffington will join Uber’s board. For those of us who know Arianna, it’s clear she knows a thing or two about being an entrepreneur. As the founder and editor-in-chief of The Huffington Post, she’s built one of the most successful, innovative media companies in the world… from scratch. […]
As a data-driven company, we understand the power of information for communities. Since day one, our mission has been to connect people with reliable rides through the use of data and technology. As our footprint has grown throughout the years, so has our ability to use the Uber network in different ways. Starting today and […]
Today, we are excited to announce that Uber will give $5.5M to support a new robotics faculty chair as well as three fellowships at CMU. This gift is part of a partnership we announced earlier this year. In addition, we’re pumped to be part of a growing innovation ecosystem in Pittsburgh that includes world leading research institutions and companies, as well as an increasing number of start-ups.
