Uber: Your Personal Shopping Assistant
We love this trip! At first we saw it happen and thought there might be a problem, so we touched base with the rider and learned of an awesome Uber use case…
We spoke with both the client & the driver to check if there was an issue. We keep a close eye on things and this one was a doosy! Turns out, this was the actual route of an Uber trip (in blue) taken by a client filled with Christmas cheer who decided to knock out all of his shopping, all while being chauffeured around for one Uber trip! Here’s his ninja X-mas shopping experience, direct from the client:
“It was brilliant! Last minute shopping for basically everyone on my list. There are three choices:
1. Drive my own car. Find parking. Juggle bags. I’d rather be beaten with a sack of oranges.
2. Take a cab. This involves switching presents to each new car. Also have to deal with hassle of hailing a new cab at each stop. Bah!
3. Hire a driver. He drops you off at the store. When you’re done, call him. He pulls around; you drop the bags in the trunk; then on to the next store. I shopped for two hours and went to probably five different stores in just under two hours. The only thing that would’ve made it better would be a cocktail between stops… maybe next time.”
To the rider: Glad we could assist in smoothing out the holiday chaos! Maybe next time we’ll include some special Egg Nog. Enjoy your free credits for sharing your killer experience with us!

Today, we are excited to announce that Uber will give $5.5M to support a new robotics faculty chair as well as three fellowships at CMU. This gift is part of a partnership we announced earlier this year. In addition, we’re pumped to be part of a growing innovation ecosystem in Pittsburgh that includes world leading research institutions and companies, as well as an increasing number of start-ups.
