Uber & Spotify = Music for Your Ride

Today, we’re announcing a big step forward in making your Uber ride truly yours. We’ve joined forces with Spotify, a world leader in streaming music, to enable you to remotely control the music that plays through your Uber’s speakers. Whether you’re starting the night with your pre-party mix or unwinding with a chill playlist on your way home, the choice is now yours with Uber.

Soundtracking your Uber ride is easy:

  1. Connect your Spotify account from the Uber Profile screen. You only need to do this once. (Don’t have Spotify Premium? No problem! See below for details.)
  2. Request a ride as usual in the Uber app. If you get matched with a music-enabled Uber, the music bar will appear at the bottom of the Uber app.
  3. Tap the music bar and choose a song from any of your Spotify playlists while you wait for your Uber to arrive.

Feel free to put your phone away; your playlist will start when your ride begins. Sit back and enjoy, or be the backseat DJ and wirelessly control the music from the Uber or Spotify app until you arrive at your destination. You can even discover new music through Uber’s featured playlists, specially curated to celebrate the city you ride in.

We’re kicking things off this Friday, November 21 in ten cities across four continents: London, Los Angeles, Mexico City, Nashville, New York, San Francisco, Singapore, Stockholm, Sydney and Toronto. And don’t worry, we’ll be rolling out to more cities around the world in the coming weeks.

And that’s not all. Uber and Spotify are also giving fans in these ten cities a chance to experience music in your Uber with some of your favorite artists: Andrew W.K., The Sam Willows, Ximena Sariñana, Ansiktet, Professor Green, Diplo, Matt and Kim, Ricki Lee, Kevin Drew and Jake Owen. We’ll have artist ride-alongs as well as exclusive live sessions, so stay tuned for more details in the coming days.

This latest update to the Uber app is rolling out today. Connect your Spotify account to get started!

ALL THE DETAILS:

  • Music is available for Spotify Premium users. Don’t have Premium? No problem. We’ve arranged with Spotify to provide you with a free week of Premium; no credit card required and no obligations at the end of the week. If you are eligible, your trial will start when you take your first music ride.
  • On Android? The Uber in-app music experience is coming soon, but you can still control your music through the Spotify app. After connecting your Spotify Premium account to Uber, tap the music bar to jump over to Spotify. Once your ride starts, tap the Now Playing bar in Spotify. Then tap the Connect icon and select “Uber Partner”. The music you choose will play through your car’s speakers.
