Uber Expands throughout Michigan with Free Rides for 2 Weeks

Last updated: 7 Dec 2015

UberX is hitting the streets of four more Michigan cities right NOW, and rides will be FREE for two weeks to celebrate. Grand Rapids, Lansing, Kalamazoo and Flint are joining the party that Ann Arbor and Detroit started. There are now six spots on the back of your left hand you can point to when showing friends where Uber is connecting drivers with riders in the Mitten State.

So whether you’ve got an important local beer release party to get to in Kzoo, need to get to a friend’s house to defend your euchre prowess or it’s game day for the green and white, Uber’s got Michiganders covered with a safe and affordable ride at the touch of a button to get you where you need to go.

We were very pleased to have the mayors of Lansing and East Lansing, Mayor Virg Bernero and Mayor Nathan Triplett, be our “Riders Zero” as we launched Uber in the Greater Lansing area! The two City Hall staples fired open their Uber apps and with one tap, requested an uberX ride in Lansing.

Their driver arrived within minutes, offering Mayor Bernero (left) and Mayor Triplett (right) a reliable and convenient ride back to their offices.

What is uberX?

In Michigan, our ridesharing service uberX offers Uber reliability with prices cheaper than a taxi. Our uberX driver partners have mid-range or hybrid vehicles in a variety of colors and styles, with seating for up to four passengers. To maintain the Uber standard you expect, all driver partners must undergo Uber’s rigorous screening process. In order to be an uberX partner in these Michigan cities, drivers must pass:

  • A pre-screening process, including a driving and criminal history check
  • Ongoing quality controls

As always, your safety and satisfaction remain our highest priority. All Uber rides are backed by the driver’s insurance policy as well our corporate insurance policy, and you will always have the option to rate every driver and contribute to the quality with your feedback.

Start enjoying your free rides today! If you don’t see an uberX at first, don’t worry! Availability may be limited at times while we’re offering free rides. Just refresh your Uber app after a few minutes to request a ride, and you’ll be on your way.
