Let the New Year Countdown Begin Dubai!

Since Uber’s launch in Dubai this September, we have grown at an incredible pace, setting several milestones along the way. We can’t thank you enough for this success because you are the heart of our growth!

New Year’s Eve is upon us and we want to give you some quick pro tips for getting around with Uber! This New Year’s Eve we’ll have a record number of cars on the road ready to get you where you want to go. But, that doesn’t change one simple fact: on NYE, everyone wants to move around the city at exactly the same time!

You can avoid the peaks of surge pricing with good timing when you travel. Check out our smart tips below, and don’t forget you’ll always know the price before you request.

With surge pricing, Uber rates increase to get more cars on the road and ensure reliability during the busiest times. When enough cars are on the road, prices go back down to normal levels. Important details:

  • You’ll always be notified in BIG, BOLD print if surge pricing is in effect
  • The surge confirmation screen requires you to type in the surge multiplier to make sure you know what to expect
  • Here are a few remarks from Uber’s CEO, Travis, on what to expect from surge on New Year’s Eve

Use the Fare Quote option in the Uber app to estimate your fare before you make your request. If surge pricing is in effect, your fare quote will always take the current rates into account.

No more footing the bill for all your friends. Using Uber’s super simple fare split feature keeps your fares fair and keeps NYE travel costs manageable. Insist on Uber’s fare split!

On another note and as most of you might know by now, Dubai has planned the World Record Fireworks display on New Year’s Eve this year, and as a result there will be significant access restrictions to the Palm. Uber will not break the trend of making your life easier, so we have summed everything up for you below to make sure you focus on your party preps instead!

* Before 7pm, RTA-approved taxis and limos (including Uber) can only access the Palm with an access PASS

* 7pm-10:30pm, a Park and Ride facility will be set up at the Monorail station on Al Sufouh Road for those with reservations at events on the Palm

* 10:30pm-12:45am, all roads will be closed (i.e. no access for vehicles)

* After 12:45am (January 1, 2014), roads will reopen and you can book your Uber ride on the Palm

The Uber journey over the past 3 months has been awesome and we are looking forward to another excellent year of Uber growth! The Dubai team wishes you an enjoyable New Year’s Eve celebration from whichever corner of Dubai you are, so stay calm and Cheers to more 5-star Uber rides in 2014!!

Best Wishes,

Uber Dubai Team
