Uber has launched in Johannesburg!
Uber’s recent journey into South Africa has been a tremendous one, and the people of Johannesburg have shown a ton of #uberLOVE since secret Ubers appeared a few weeks ago.
From hipsters in Newtown to socialites in Sandton, and Bafana and Bok fans in Soccercity, the word is out and we are thrilled to make it official: Uber has officially launched in Jo’burg!
As a city that began with the search for gold, the pursuit of efficient transportation in Jozi is nearly as sought after. Finally, the wait is over. The people of Johannesburg now have a safe, reliable and secure way to move around their city, and all at the push of a button. Uber can help you get through the traffic, the rain, the robots and the road blocks. We are also very proud of Uber’s ability to empower local drivers to become small business owners. This itself has the potential to create more jobs and transform lives.
From Mark Fish to Gareth Cliff, and Boity, Toby, Khaya and Kirsty, it’s clear that #uberLOVE is sweeping through the continent. We want to thank all of you who helped us progress this far, and for your continued support in making Uber a massive hit in Johannesburg and in South Africa.
If you’re not using Uber already, you’re missing out! Use the promo code ‘uberjozi’ to get R200 off your first ride and experience the ease of arriving in style! Follow us on Twitter and let us know what you think. #UberAfrica.
Shweet! Much love,
– Team Jo’burg
