World Whisky Day: The Best Old Fashioned in Town
Did you know that 21 May is World Whisky Day? Hence, it’s only fitting that we celebrate it the Old Fashioned way. We’ve gathered the top 5 bars in Singapore with the best Old Fashioned:
Manhattan Bar, Regent Hotel ,1 Cuscaden Road, 249715
Hidden on the second floor of Regent hotel, you’ll find yourself transported to old New York (Think Great Gatsby) where craft bartending meets artisanal spirits. Their cocktails and drinks are all inspired by different precincts in New York City, spoil yourself with a drink from Harlem to Upper East Side.
We recommend: Their classic Old Fashioned or an El Dorado
Jigger & Pony, 101 Amoy Street, 069921
Bet you didn’t know Jigger & Pony is actually the name for the double-coned measuring device used by bartenders for accurate pours! Their cocktails come in the categories of classic, vintage, and signatures, with a whole menu dedicated to Whisky. Jigger & Pony also serves punch bowls that cater to 15-20 people. Team drinks, anyone?
We recommend: An entire menu dedicated to Whisky, take your pick!
Ah Sam Cold Drink Stall, 60A Boat Quay, 049848
Situated along the beautiful Singapore River, Ah Sam Cold Drink Stall is a cocktail bar located in a olden day Singapore shophouse. Not only do they serve local delights like Hokkien Mee, Ngoh Hiang and Fried Kuay Teow, they create drinks with a local twist (Imagine Chendol Martini) ! Don’t worry if you don’t see a menu, they create a drink based on your alcohol and taste preferences.
We recommend: Milo Old Fashioned: An Old Fashioned with a Singaporean twist!
28 HongKong Street, 28 Hongkong Street, 059667
Named Asia’s Best Bar just this year, this popular speakeasy may not be that easy to find. (Perhaps your Uber driver may have some tips and clues) Taking its cue from the hidden entrances of American speakeasies, 28HKS is hidden behind the nondescript shophouse facade. Known for using the highest quality ingredients and superb bartending techniques, they make Old Fashioned from anything you like.
We recommend: Get creative and be adventurous! Also, the Mac ‘n’ Cheese Balls!
Horse’s Mouth, #B1-39 Forum The Shopping Mall, 583 Orchard Road, 238884
Now this one might be an adventure.. In order to find this gem, you’ll need to enter the rather unassuming Uma Uma Ramen on Level 1 and walk through a curtain door. Head down behind that and that’s where you will find the Horse’s Mouth. Cocktails here are seen as pieces of art and are crafted to suit your palate! Fun fact: The bartender, Leong, is actually the winner of Masterchef Asia!
We recommend: Ask for the King Code
