UBER CUP UPDATE: After an action-packed week in Rio de Janeiro, your valiant Uber Cup Champions – Ronaldo, Minaz, Raveroj, Sofiane, Suren, Ahmad, Allan, and Miguel – just arrived home to their respective cities. We wanted to share their journey with you:
Dear Uberverse, we’re thrilled to bring you eight of the very best Uber driver-partners on the entire planet. Thanks to their dedication, professionalism, hustle, and pure, unadulterated Uberness—these eight drivers are headed to Rio to join the global soccer extravaganza.
The #UberCup champions you’re about to meet are going to enjoy a once-in-a-lifetime trip to Brazil including roundtrip airfare for two to Rio on United Airlines, six nights of lodging, $2,000 in spending money and a chance to watch the final face-off.
If all that sounds amazing—that’s because it is amazing.
Last week, we surprised the well deserving winners with the good news. Check it out, and grab a tissue !
The winners out-drove hundreds of thousands of other driver-partners who rolled in our UberCup challenge. They drove early. They drove well. They drove often. They delivered. They earned it. Now, without further do, please meet Ronaldo, Allan, Ahmad, Miguel, Muhammad, Suren, and Raveroj.
Ronaldo Campos – San Francisco – West Coast Champion
Ronaldo is Uber San Francisco’s king of streets. While he’s only been driving since February, he’s already logged more than 4,000+ trips. Total hustle. Total class. Ronaldo and his family originally hail from Goiania, Brazil. He’s looking forward to a triumphal homecoming and a reunion with his family who will be meeting him in Rio! And, there’s no question who he’ll be supporting on July 13th in the Maracana – Neymar, and the Green and Yellow of Brazil.
Allan Gaston – Chicago – Midwest Champion
In the Windy City, Allan approached the Uber Cup challenge with the hallmark determination that drove Derrick Rose’s MVP season for the Chicago Bulls; when he saw the competition announced, he simply asked himself, “Why not me?” After that, he hit the streets and embarked upon a sensational streak of five-star trips all around the city, earning accolades and admiration from dozens of happy riders along the way. An avid sports fan originally from the Philippines, Allan’s first love is soccer and he’s looking forward to rekindling that flame as he cheers for the USA in Rio!
Ahmad Zaki – Washington, DC – East Coast Champion
Ahmad has been dominating the streets of DC. With over 2400 trips since February, he has perfected his service and regularly wows his riders. As recent passenger commented: “Ahmad was by far the best driver we’ve ever had. You will be lucky if you get him!.” Originally from Afghanistan, Ahmad has been living and working in the US for 18 years. A great dad as well as driver, Ahmad was so ecstatic when he found out that he’d won, he drove immediately to his son’s college to share the good news. The two of them are now counting the days until they travel down to Rio to cheer on the red white and blue.
Miguel Angel Ovando – Mexico City, Mexico – Latin America Champion
Thanks to Miguel, la gente in Mexico City think Uber is a Spanish word that means quality, reliability and super fantastico drivers. An uberX veteran, Miguel joined the movement early as one of the first uberX drivers. Since then, he’s continued to drive towards excellence and his dedication has earned him a coveted spot at the Uber Cup’s winner’s table. Next time you’re looking for the best way to get from the Bellas Artes Mueusm to the Chalpultepec Castle, tap Miguel in his shiny Volkswagen Bora for the best ride in town.
Muhammad Minaz Khan – Manchester, England – UK Champion
Minaz has taken Uber Manchester by storm: he started with Uber the day the Uber Cup competition began and he won. What a learning curve! Determined from Day 1 to win the Uber Cup, Minaz’s dedication has shone with truly amazing rider feedback – this typifies it: “He’s raised the already high standards of your company—truly the best driver I’ve had—and great to talk to! If I could give him more stars, I would!” Hailing from Gorton, Manchester, Minaz is naturally an England fan, but after their woeful display, he’ll be supporting the Oranje: Netherlands.
Suren Sargsyan – Brussels – Europe Champion
Like all good super heroes, Suren has a day job. A truck driver by day, he loves driving around Bruxellois in his free time on uberPOP. It was his obvious passion and fantastic service, plus a lot of excellent driving that helped him take the title. Originally from Armenia, he has been living in Brussels for over 15 years and, like any good Belgian he has no doubt who he will be cheering for in Rio (Go Belgium!). He and his wife are bringing their 6 month old son for his first trip outside of Belgium.
Raveroj Akarapatchaiporn – Bangkok – Asian Champion
A happily converted taxi driver from Bangkok, Mr. Raveroj really enjoys finding customers on the Uber map, quickly picking them up and providing them with the very best customer experience. Thailand is the land of a 1,000 smiles, and Raveroj’s riders know why. His easy-going but professional manner makes customers feel at ease while riding with him, which helps him stand above the crowd. Holland has been his favorite team since he was a child and he’s incredibly excited that he’s flying to Rio to see the team play live. His service to Uber has made him a favorite among Bangkok riders. Aside from his love for the Netherlands team, the most precious thing in his life is his 10-years old daughter who is happy that her father is fulfilling his dream to see Holland play in the big tournament.
Sofiane Ouali – San Francisco, USA – Uber BLACK Champion
The very definition of an legend, Sofiane Ouali is a veteran Uber BLACK driver with four years and nearly 20,000 trips under his belt, many of them completed in The Unicorn, his signature white Town Car. While the Unicorn has since been retired, Sofiane remains as passionate as ever about driving and continues to build on his already impressive 5,000 trip lead as the most prolific driver in the world. For a month each summer, Sofiane dedicates his limitless energy to supporting Les Enfants de la Mer, a program for disabled and orphaned youth in his home country of Algeria. He is also an avid world traveler, outdoorsman, cook, and a former Algerian national soccer player.
Thanks again to everyone who participated in the UberCup challenge. Keep up the great driving!
And, for all you riders out there that’ve been been lucky enough to ride with one of these world-class drivers, please make sure to send them some #UberLove.
