Knowledge Assessment

PLEASE NOTE THIS ONLY APPLIES TO UBER PARTNERS IN VICTORIA, AUSTRALIA

In December 2014, the TSC released the Hire Car Knowledge Assessment. As of January 1, 2015, it is a requirement that any applicant for a Hire Car Accreditation, sit and pass the ‘Knowledge’.

Please note, the Hire Car Knowledge test is different to the Taxi Knowledge test you may have heard about. It is shorter and less complicated.

Here are some tips to help you pass the Knowledge!

Where can I take the test?

You can sit the test in one of four locations (CBD, Tullamarine, Ringwood, Frankston) at numerous times across the week. You can create an account and book in for the test here.

You will often find that the test is booked out for weeks in advance. So get in early!

The test will cost $62. You are responsible for meeting the cost of the Knowledge.

What sort of test is it?

The Knowledge is a computer-based multiple choice test comprising of 55 questions.

What is covered in the Knowledge?

The Hire Car Knowledge covers basic service and driving standards that are expected of all Hire Car drivers. Particular attention is given to the following:

  • Touting (asking people if they want a ride)
  • Your other obligations as a Hire Car driver
  • Road Rules (particularly Melbourne specific rules e.g. what to do around trams)
  • Mobile Phone Usage
  • General Customer Service

Can I study for the test?

Yes! The TSC have a released a study guide which you can see here. You will want to study the green booklet.

A brush up on the Victorian Road Rules is a good idea as well (especially around rules for Hook Turns, U-Turns, No Standing and Clearway zones and Trams). You can find this at the VicRoads website.

The test is not meant to be too complicated but it can be tricky if you do not read the guide.

Please make sure you read the entire guide several times to give you the best chance of success.
