One-Tap Sign Up & Ride With Apple Pay
Today, we launched an update to the Uber app that is integrated with Apple Pay, a new service that offers an easy, secure, and private way to pay using Touch ID. We’re excited about it because it solves an age-old problem in the world of e-commerce—namely the friction involved in signing up and entering your credit card information.
The beauty of Apple Pay is that it simplifies Uber’s signup process to a single tap. If you have an eligible credit card already added to Apple Pay, you don’t need to enter it again to ride with Uber. Instead, merely place your finger on the Touch ID sensor of your iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus, and your Uber is on its way. No forms, no fuss. We’re calling this new Uber feature Ride Now, and it’s the product of a close collaboration between Uber and Apple over the past few months.
How it works:
- Open the Uber app and tap Ride Now.
- Tap Set Pickup Location, enter your destination, and confirm your request.
- Place your finger on Touch ID to confirm payment, and your Uber is en route!
The rest of the Uber experience remains exactly the same. A receipt for your ride, with the fare breakdown and trip route, is sent to the email you have for Apple Pay; riders rate their drivers at the end of each trip. Existing Uber users are unaffected and can continue using Uber as before.
With Apple Pay, trying out Uber just became even more of a no-brainer. Make sure to tell your family and friends, and send them your personal invite code to give them a free first ride and get free rides in return.
We’re excited to expand the Uber for Business platform beyond business travel, to include a world-class customer transportation solution, Uber Central. With Uber Central, organizations of all shapes and sizes can now easily provide on-demand, door-to-door transportation for their customers, clients, and guests.
A little over a year ago, we set out to put a new spin on an old classic–make reliable food delivery available at the tap of a button. Back then, we started by offering food in the UberEATS app from 1,000 pioneering restaurant partners in four cities. And today, more than 40,000 restaurants globally–from poke shops to pasta spots–are sharing food with customers through UberEATS. With a growing restaurant community comes more choices and more complexity. So we’re cooking up features to continue to make UberEATS easy and reliable. Here is a taste–
