Introducing Upfront Fares!

Over the next few days, we’ll be introducing upfront fares for riders who request uberX rides. We’re introducing this because it’s simpler for riders, and will mean more business and higher earnings for drivers as we have seen in every other city in which we have launched upfront fares!

What this means for our partners:

  • Upfront pricing does not affect Surge. Fares will continue to vary when demand is high, and you’ll still see the same Surge map in your partner app. Earnings Boost still applies – check it out at
  • If a rider changes destination, makes multiple stops, or if you have to wait for the rider upon arrival at the pick-up spot, fares will be re-calculated to include the extra time & distance charges incurred


Q: Why does Uber offer upfront fares to riders?
A: Based on tests in other cities, riders request more trips if they are offered an upfront price. In other cities where we introduced this, trip requests increased even during surge times. This means more trips and higher fares for partners.

Q: How will you determine the upfront fare?
A: We calculate the upfront fare by considering all factors that affect a fare: route, surge, traffic and tolls. This is still subject to change in the event of a longer route taken or any waiting time incurred, so your earnings will not be affected!

Q: How do delays, traffic or route changes impact my fares?
A: Our upfront fare calculation and navigation take real-time traffic into account, but fares will also be automatically recalculated in the event of extra delays. If a rider changes destination or makes multiple stops, the fare will change automatically to reflect the extra time & distance cost incurred.

Q: What about trips with promos?
A: Your fare will not be affected as you will still be paid the upfront fare as indicated to the rider. For example, if a ride costs RM20 but the rider has a RM10 promotion code, the rider will pay RM10, but you will still receive the full fare amount (minus Uber’s service fee).

Q. How will I benefit from upfront fares?
A: Other cities that offer upfront pricing to riders have already seen significant increase of requests. In a nutshell, riders love upfront fares so they will take more trips. As a partner, that simply means more trips and earnings for you. Be ready for more trips with this feature!
