SOME FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
There are a range of commonly asked questions that we know many drivers have when they first get on the Uber system.
Q: How do I get paid?
A: Uber processes payments on a Monday for the previous week’s trips. It will be in your account by Thursday at the latest depending on your bank. Once you become active you can head here to upload your account details. Remember – with Uber there are no start-up fees and you get to keep 80% of the fare!
Q: How do tolls work?
A: Tolls incurred whilst a rider is in the car are reimbursed. The GPS in your phone will register that you have gone through a toll and add it to the fare. Keep a record of trips with tolls and reconcile it against your pay statement to make sure they were all paid. You can see an instructional video on tolls here.
Please note, we reimburse for tolls, not pay them. You need to have an Etag. Head here to register for an Etag account. You will need an Etag – we cannot reimburse you for a day pass etc
Pro tip: If the in-app navigation is directing you to use a toll road, it’s best to make sure the rider is aware and happy to pay for it.
Q: What happens at the airport?
A: You will get trips to the airport. Just drop the rider off at departures and head back into town (take the Bell Street exit to avoid tolls). We currently are not allowed to pick up from the airport (riders physically can’t request an uberX).
If a rider asks just let them know that they can almost always get an UberBLACK from the airport!
Q: How does insurance work?
A: You can read about our insurance coverage here. If you have any more questions about insurance then please make sure you come to the daily Q&A session.
Q: How does tax work?
A: You are not an employee of Uber. Which means you are your own boss! It also means that Uber does not pay your tax for you. Like all contractors, it is your responsibility to declare your income and pay tax accordingly. No ABN is required unless you are earning over $75 000 a year with Uber.
We recommend you seek independent tax advice if you need it.
We also have a more extensive FAQ on our partner dashboard for when you become active. If you already are active then head here to check it out!
