Happy New Year!
New Year’s Eve is upon us and we want to give you some quick pro tips for getting around with Uber! This New Year’s Eve we’ll have a record number of cars on the road ready to get you where you want to go. But, that doesn’t change one simple fact: on NYE, everyone wants to move around the city at exactly the same time!
You can avoid the peaks of surge pricing with good timing when you travel. Check out our smart tips below, and don’t forget you’ll always know the price before you request.
HOW DOES SURGE PRICING WORK?
With surge pricing, Uber rates increase to get more cars on the road and ensure reliability during the busiest times. When enough cars are on the road, prices go back down to normal levels.
- You’ll always be notified in BIG, BOLD print if surge pricing is in effect
- The surge confirmation screen requires you to type in the surge multiplier to make sure you know what to expect
- Here are a few remarks from Uber’s CEO, Travis, on what to expect from surge on New Year’s Eve
Use the Fare Quote option in the Uber app to estimate your fare before you make your request. If surge pricing is in effect, your fare quote will always take the current rates into account.
I CAN SPLIT FARES WITH FRIENDS?
No more footing the bill for all your friends. Using Uber’s super simple fare split feature keeps your fares fair and keeps NYE travel costs manageable. Insist on Uber’s fare split!
We’re excited to launch Payment Rewards — a way to discover, track, and redeem rewards right in the Uber app. We’re kicking it off with Capital One®, where every 10th ride is free (up to $15) when you pay with a Quicksilver® or QuicksilverOne® card through March 2017.

As the founder and editor-in-chief of The Huffington Post, she’s built one of the most successful, innovative media companies in the world… from scratch. […]
