Accessible Transportation Options in Toronto

October 2015 Update: UberACCESS is now called uberWAV in the Uber app in Toronto. To request a ride, move the slider over to uberTAXI at the bottom of the app and tap the uberWAV option to request a ride. Hear more about our recent accessibility initiatives here

Uber’s mission is to connect everyone to safe, reliable rides that arrive within minutes at the tap of a button. We know that riders with disabilities face a variety of problems accessing on-demand transportation in Toronto. And while these problems are not unique to our city, there is more that can be done and Uber is proud to be a part of the solution.

UberACCESS is a platform that connects riders with licensed paratransit drivers and curb-to-curb service in vehicles that are equipped with hydraulic ramps or lifts. This means that Toronto riders requiring an extra hand have access to the same on-demand transportation technology – at the same price – that hundreds of thousands of Uber riders already love in Ontario.

Since we introduced UberACCESS in Toronto in December 2014, our wheelchair accessible vehicle supply has been growing, which has transformed disabled transit. The platform allows for on-demand pick ups within minutes. And drivers of vehicles on the UberACCESS platform are knowledgeable about accessibility needs and accommodating for riders who require wheelchair accessible vehicles with a lift or ramp for transportation.

Request an UberACCESS vehicle:

  1. Move the slider to TAXI at the bottom of the Uber app
  2. Tap the UberACCESS bar above the slider
  3. Select your location and request a ride!

We’re dedicated to increasing the mobility, efficiency and freedom of all riders and drivers with accessibility needs. With VoiceOver iOS compatibility, the Uber app also provides a safe and reliable transportation option for the visually impaired community. Furthermore, the app includes various text prompts and visual features, meaning that audio is not needed to use Uber, ensuring effective communication for those who are deaf or hard-of-hearing.

Since launching in Toronto, UberACCESS has been making a dramatic difference in many people’s lives by providing accessible options for safe, reliable, and on-demand travel – this is transformative change that Uber Toronto is excited to be a part of.
